Default backup/reverse lights on in drive

Like the title says, my backup lights sometimes are on when I'm in drive. After searching here and google I still haven't a clue as to what could be causing this.

Could be a shorted PRNDL switch, on the side of the transmission.

None that I know of.

Is the PRNDL switch a big dollar item? I might just start there and replace it. I'm not sure how long this has been happing. Two days ago a coworker told me about it, then I got pulled over on the way to work today.

Maybe somebody put your tail light bulb/socket in the wrong holes of your tail lights.

No. Nothing has changed like that. I just hope this isn't some kind of grimlin I'll be chasing.

PRNDL switch would be my first guess, second guess would be corrosion causing a short to the sub harnesses to the tail lights...

I have a similar issue. While back my shifter became impossible to shift. Took it to a mechanic that was recommended to me and now my reverse lights dont come on when I put it in "R". I have to "play" w/ it a little going from "R" to "N" and then they will come on. It has to do w/ the either the switch as mentioned above or the shifter cable. Does your PRND321 always work according to what gear your in? Go from "P" all the way down to 1 and back up slowy. Mine usually works on the way down but will not make it all the way back up to "P" even though I can feel it shift in.

I cant tell you a fix as I never really paid attn to it but those are the 2 things I would look into. Mine still shifts properly and if I need some reverse lights I just hit the cargo lamp. Your situation sucks though. Hopefully you can get it taken care of.

You might just need your neutral safety (PRNDL) switch adjusted...

Thanks. I think I need a new one though. I've tried adjusting it several times. Either the reverse works properly and I can't make it all the way down to 1 or I leave it as is and have all gears working Thinking of one day getting a new one and a new cable. Guy I took it to mentioned he might have put in a cable from a diff truck. Not sure if they are different sizes but won't hurt to find out.

Thanks again and OLD BULL sorry for the quick thread jack.
