I don't mean to offend anyone but this is just an observation from several trucks I have worked on. Anybody else noticed this? From what I have observed, they are not at par mod per mod with the 02-04.

Well I think I know what he means. Here is one example. A buddy of mine has an 05 ECSB with CAI, shorty headers, dual exhaust, 3.73, g80 VS my brothers 04 ECSB with replacement K&N, borla muffler, 3.73, g80 and my brothers truck beat him by 1-2 lengths time after time. (My brother ran a 15.39 at Edinburg)
Same 05 against an 03 ecsb on 22s with an MTI tune and nothing else. The 05 was at about the gas tank of the 03.
I was thinking the same thing about the 05s. We expected it to rock on the other ones cause of the headers(not very good ones but they are there)but not that night.

Most new 05 silverados have the 3.42 gear ratio.
I have had a few of them as work trucks and they do suck. I had a new 05 5.3 HO with 3.42 and my buddy had a 04 4.8 with 3.73 and his would out run me every time. gm changing out the ratio is for gas milage but it dont change that much for sure.

Here are some examples.... 02 SCSB 5.3 3.73, custom tune, exhaust and CAI on 20's and 116k miles on the odameter VRs. 05 SCSB 5.3 3.73, custom tune exhaust and CAI on stock wheels with about 5k miles on the od. The 02 rapes the 05 on the street. Both tuned by the same person.
Another example 02 5.3 3.73 scsb with custom tune and no cats with about 100 pounds of sound system 14.5 in the 1/4 VRs. 05 scsb 5.3 3.73 with custom tune, exhaust and CAI 15.1 in the 1/4. The 05 ran in slightly hotter weather, both tuned by the same person and no traction issues on both.

gusy u have to remeber there not 3.42's anymore GM changed the base gear ratios in 05 to a 3.23 for better gas milege . and my 05 ecsb stepside , 5.3 , 3.73 g-80 , 3 inch str8 pipe runs a 15.9 in 83 degree flordai weather and on a half a tank of 87 octane in full trim . so i dont think there a turd its the fact most of them have 3.23's now

I'm happy with the performance of my 05 Silverado Crew Cab. It runs just as good as my 00 Silverado Ext did with the similar mods and I'm sure the Crew Cab is a heavier. See sig for track time and mods.
