Default Anti Lock Brakes?

So, the deal is, I just got my Silverado from my father. He was having anti-lock brake issues, where some module fried, so he pulled the fuse. The brakes work fine now, I just don't have Anti-lock at this point. No big deal, but I think it'd be a nice little safety feature to have back. The dealership told him a few months ago it'd cost 1600 to replace the broken module.

Any other alternatives than having a dealer charge me an arm and a leg, or should I just deal with the constant glowing of the ABS light and red brake warning light?

Do a google search for modulemaster.com, or something of the sorts. There's a guy who repairs the module for around $100 or something like that. The module problem is very common...the module shorts and causes the pump to run continuously. As long as the pump didn't overheat and all you need is the module, you can get off alot cheaper than $1600. The module is located on top of the ABS actuator on the driver's side frame rail under the truck, sorta behind where you sit. It's retained by 3 or 4 bolts and one electrical connector (can't remember what size bolts though)

Hey friend...BudHayes is absolutely correct. I work at a dealership and I see this problem all the time. The cost of repair is usually $1000 to $2000 and most dealers will tell you that the pump has to be replaced eventhough it is probably still good.

Just find you a good ABS Module (Elect.Brake Control) at a junkyard or modulemaster.com or somewhere. Put it on yourself.....it ain't hard....it's actually pretty easy once you do it.

Send me the last 8 digits of your vin# and I'll get you the GM part# that you need.
