Default Alternator Recomendations

Alrighty, I've done some searching on this subject but didn't yeild an answer to my question. I have a 2000 Silverado with the 2005 e-fans. I have the stock 105amp alternator and I am expierencing a voltage drop (down to 9!!!) when the fans turn on high. This is with a Nelson Fan Harness. I am looking to solve this problem and I am thinkin that part of the cause is my alternator. So what alternator should I get, looking to shop at the local NAPA (napaautoparts.com). I have a slavage 145amp in my hands and it looks like the plugs are different what recomendations do you guys suggest. Should I also play around with the values for cooling fan airflow (Engine>Idle>Idle Airflow), what sould these values be? Thanks for all the help ahead of time.

I'm running an OEM 145 amp alt, and I just bought a dccontrol fan controller because it has a soft start feature. It just came in today, so I'll install it here in the next few days and let you know how it works.

I'm using an OEM 145amp alt and I get the drop also...I notice it alot when the defroster is on and the a/c compressor cycles alot. I'm curious to see how thunder550 makes out with the dccontrol controller.

Default 06 Silvy

I have an 06 Silvy and my alternator charges anywhere from 12.9 - 14.3? The truck only has 6K miles on it.

What does your plug look like on your alternator, and what year 145amp did you get? On my truck the plug is a long rectangle, but on the 145amp it is almost a square.

IIRC they went to that style connector in 05, I think if you get something that is 04 or earlier it would work. My plug is a 4-pin flat connector.

I think my alternator is for an 03...4 pin connector, but only 2 pins are being used (if I remember correctly). Originally only 1 pin was being used, but the 2nd one is a wire to the 2002 PCM.

That sounds right....the outer pins are not used IIRC, it's just the middle two.

Glad to here the dccontroller worked good-which model did you get? I may go this route instead of "wasting" money on an alternator that wont solve the problem.

So as far as the tuning portion of my question does anyone know what edit in Cooling Fan Airflow?
