Default Are all hitches the same??

I bought a hitch from a guy on craigslist that he took off a 99-06 truck. I tried to bolt this to my frame and it is not fitting. I got the bolts to the bumper to go in and i can get one on the passanger side to sinch down toward the front of the truck, but the hitch sits at about a 10 degree angle with the back of the hitch resting on the frame and the front of the hitch resting on the bumper.

I COULD take my bumper loose and push it up the 2 inches i need to get the hitch to bolt and leave two bolts out and tighten it down and call it a day but i just dont want to chance something that will tow my boat. Anyone got any ideas?

Edit- My truck is a 06 1500 w/t.

The hitches are the same from 99-06 for the 1500s. It is possible the one you have may be from a 2500 HD.

I could never get my hitch to line up exactly with my rear bumper after I replaced the bumper. I just made sure the bolts to the frame were good.

I will try and get some pics tonight after work. Would it hurt anything to get longer bolts and space the hitch down from the frame with some grade 8 bolts to get the length i need to clear the bumper?

Sounds like you may have a 2500 hitch. It sets lower under the bumper and also the frame is different on a 2500.

If I were going to tow heavy loads I would not modify that hitch to work. I would get one that fit correctly. Too much liability if it were to fail under load and cause an accident.

I agree. Don't modify nothing. Try to sell that one and buy another one.
