I went to the local 1/8th mi drag last night to see what my buddy's '78 Camaro would run w/ flattops and ported smog heads...a 9.3 at best like that. Last time it was like an 8.8 with the same heads, a smaller cam, and dished pistons! He's running a TH350 w/ shift kit and an open 4.10:1 diff.
While there I decided to run my WRX...
Could only muster a 9.6 @ 74mph. Damned stock stall converter could only get to ~2400-2600rpm on a brake stall.
Shitty 2.3 sec 60' time. Consistant as hell each time. From a 20mph punch on the street it can take a stock/mild bolt on 99+ GT Mustang (killed two of them) but this car SUCKS from a dead stop!
My mods are in my sig. I did the best I could get it to run due to the stall. It equates 14.98 @ 93mph. Maybe launching at 2-4psi sucks.
That's what about a whopping 122cubes and 8:1 compression will get you!
Eh decided to post my results...
LOL
Can you imagine how slooooow this car was stock with 3 cats and no tuning and all it will do now is mid 9's?!

Actually down in Kennedale...it's about 15min from my pad. Denton is like 40 min or so I think. I live waaaaaaay south in Tarrant County...like 10 min from Ellis County by Joe Pool Lake. I'm moving back to Arlington in about a month so it's possible I can come out there for some laughs once I get my Duramax.

That automatic REALLY puts you at a disadvantage. Times for the stock manual rex are faster than your times with all the mods...ouch haha! Look on the bright side, at least you don't have to worry about busting the crappy 5-speed manual in the wrx though.

Well a stall would eliminate that disadvantage. ProTorque is the only company that restalls the stocker for about $400. It'll flash to about 2600rpms (higher than I can brake stall to hahhaha) and brake to about 3500rpms real fast and creep to about 4200rpms. A launch at 3000rpms would put me at full boost.
Also my chip is the super generic off the shelf tune with no tweaking done. I've got a solid 10-20whp left in that alone.
If I was running 1.9-2.0 60' I'd be in the high 8 sec to low 9 I'd assume maybe better with a tune and stall.
That 5 speed SUCKS. Some dude was out there with only an uppipe and already has no 2nd gear.

Things may have changed but I remember the Rigoli's were using a beefed up subaru auto tranny in their 9 second Easystreet wrx, showing that the auto does have great potential. I had the 5-speed in my wrx with a kart boy short shift kit....that was definately the most awesome shifting car I've ever driven.
IMO, you should consider getting an Sti if you plan on modifying your wrx anymore, that is if you don't mind the manual and don't mind laying down a bit of cash.
The Sti could easily get into the low 12's or high 11's for a very minimal amount of money, and have great low end tourqe, unlike the EJ20. I haven't researced anything in a while, but when Shiv at Vishnu was testing his Stage 1 for the Sti, it was putting out pretty impressive numbers. Somewhere around 325 awhp if I recall, which makes the power to weight ratio close to that of a Porsche TT
. I heard Mitsu is bring the Evo MR here, that thing is rad! I smell a Spec C comin from Subaru. I never would have imagined this a few years ago, jeeezzz.

If I was to really work that WRX over I'd do a 2.5L swap from the STi, 272 cams, AVCS, and prolly a PE1820 turbo...all of course after a stall. The STi is a sweet ride but I'm too lazy to drive a manual. Hell WRX's with about $4K can break 12s easily.
It's just not worth dumping that $$$ into it, it's a cheap car.
