Default AC Won't Turn Off

I bought my truck a few months ago. It's been pretty good. However, when I first got it, the AC wouldn't come on much of the time. It was very random when it decided to come on and when it didn't. On Friday, I turned it on and it actually came on. But now, it won't turn off. I am thinking that the compressor clutch is faulty and stuck on. Has anyone had this happen before? I would like to try to fix it myself because air conditioning repairs tend to be very expensive, but I don't know where to start. Obviously the compressor isn't turning off. Could it be electrical? Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Try and tap the clutch with the engine off then turn it on to see if it diesengaged. Or you can run it and disconnect the plug to the a/c compressor clutch to see if it is energizing the coil on the clutch which is why its staying on and not the clutch being hung up. If you find that the coil is staying energized I would look at the hvac control as possibly being shorted. Look at the wiring routed to the compressor for anything unusual but I doubt you will find the problem there.

I wouldn't necessarily say your ACC clutch is the problem, considering it also cycles on and off when the A/C is not on - like when the defroster is on.

Does your A/C stay on, as in it's still lighted on the HVAC control panel? It could be faultly control panel - but I wouldn't know how to verify that. Unless maybe swap with someone who you know works

The light on the panel will turn off and on accodingly when I push the AC button, but even if the little light is off, the AC will still be blowing out cold air, meaning the clutch is still engaged and the pump is going. Tomorrow, I will see if it cycles on and off with the AC button on and off. For some reason, I think I remember it cycling with the button on, but not with the button off. Does the compressor cycle all the time, or just when the engine is warm?

do you have it set on fresh air or recirculate? Because on recirculate the compressor run and blow cold air - even if a/c is off

Check what snakeoiler said on my truck if I push the button for recirculate, the ac stays on all the time.

Ok, I just messed around with it and yes, when the recirculate button is on, the AC comes on also, even if the AC button is off. I can hear the AC clutch clicking on and off when I press the buttons. Anyone know why this is? I guess it's supposed to be like this? No other vehicle I've owned or been in has the AC set to come on when the recirculate button is on.

Well the AC is still having issues. I went on a 300 mile trip yesterday and had the AC off for about half of it until it heated up outside. I turned on the AC and no cold air would come out. I fiddled with all of the buttons and nothing. I messed around with it for about 30 minutes before I gave up and I left the AC button on. About 15 minutes later the AC clicked on and cold air started blasting out of the vents right away. Anyone have any ideas to what the problem could be? Thanks
