97 L31 K1500 engine, will 5.3 vortec intake TB ECU etc work?
I have a 1997 K1500 w/ the 5.7L 350, manual transmission. with the L31 Vortec engine, pre-LS engines.
I am looking to hop up the engine....
First stage - something I can actually TUNE once I get better parts on it!!!
So, will one of those 1999-2003 junkyard-pulls of a 4.8/5.3/6.0 Vortec V8 intake manifolds, throttle body, wiring harness & sensors, and ECU/PCM work with my setup, so I can tune it with HP Tuners or EFI Live, for boost?
Any help is much appreciated...
thx

A 6.0 swap would be nice, in the future...
I might consider doing a Holley EFI conversion kit instead then. I like the low powerband and torque this 5.7 w/ these heads has anyways.

This Holley Terminator 4-brl EFI kit, and a simple vortec-style intake manifold swap, would be a killer combo for these L31 trucks:
Holley Performance Products Terminator™ EFI 4bbl Throttle Body Fuel Injection System - Hard Core Gray™ 550-406
Easy to tune for bolt-ons, cam, etc. And they offer a free software upgrade for laptop tuning on that same ECU, for boost, etc.

To make any power with that $2000 kit you still need headers and a camshaft. Edit: and an intake manifold.
An entire 6.0/4l80 could be done for about 3k including labor. Edit:Houston Texas price...maybe 4k elsewhere

And what about being able to pass inspection with an engine swap like that?

Junkyards get 5.3/6.0's often. I would just get with someone who has done a similar swap and have them source the engine/wiring harness and pcm. Not sure what has to be done as far as transmission wiring in your situation but the right person would know or the right amount of research. Do the clutch also if you have the trans seperated from the engine.
Inspection only has to do with tires brakes catalytic converters(most people wont crawl under and check for them) and turn signals. If you have emissions testing I honestly have no clue if it would pass as I have never had to deal with that.
