8.1L Vortec in a 1500 Silverado?
#1
I see a lot of guys throw a 6.0L in their 1500 Silverados...Is it even plausible to put a 8.1L in a 1500 Silverado? From what I've gathered, the 8.1 was made for one year back in 2001...What're the logistics involved in doing an engine swap of this magnitude?

No doubt the truck in that pic is nasty, but the 8.1 isn't a great idea.. The after market isn't too big for them, the stuff thats there is $$$$.. Plus there is alot more to fab up, vs a 6.0 swap.... bolt in and go

Power to money ratio is in the 6.0 favor. Easier and cheaper to get more gains.

The 6.0 is where its at. No doubt, the BBC has nuts, but its still old school BBC.
The new line of LSX engines have modern tech backing them up. Especially in the heads and intake dept. Id rather have an enlarged 6.0 anyday.

I have read that 8.1 while one torque monster is nothing special when it comes to the heads. The heads are where power is made and lost the fastest. There something like a good modernized version of BBC oval ports.
If you take the 6.2 L-92 heads you have a throughly modern design plus it flows more CFM then even ported 8.1's. I've read they can support 600+ hp with a stout cam, and mind you it will be a rough idle, but its stock.
The LSX motor can support up to 500 inches I think if not 427 which everyone builds with it gets you in BB terotory.
Then like the other post it drops right in and drive.
