Default 4.8 to 6 speed

I have heard that early 4.8 won't work with a six speed. Is this true?

news to my ears. What year do you have? The only thing that is an issue is that the crossmember is a bit different on the 99-00 trucks so it won't bolt right in.

It's a 2000, I read the a4-m6 thread, and saw about the cross member. But thought someone mentioned problems with early 4.8s.

The early 4.8's with 5spds have a different crank. The flywheel mounting flange sticks out further and it requires you to space the transmission back a little bit from the bell housing.

Is it a flange or a just a spacer like on the 6.0? I removed the spacer on my 6.0 crank yesterday, it'll fix my Trans Am, so that just saved me $50.

I believe it's the actual crank, like the 99-2000 6.0's. I've never seen one, but there was a guy on here that did the swap and he ran into this issue. I'll see if I can dig up his name.
