Default 4.8 or 6.0

First off i know this topic has been coverd a million times but i have a 2000 gmc rcsb with a 4.8 with 220,000 milles on it and its a DD im wanting to upgrade but my question is do i buy a 4.8 and put all kinds off go fast parts in it or do a 6.0 swap and do the same.. i can get a 4.8 locally for about $300to $400 with low miles i have read good things about these little motors but there's also a lot of people on the 6.0 band wagon. i dont want a drag truck just a strong truck that will smoke the local ricers and mustang boy's give me your two cents.

Id like to hear from some people that have done the swap how big of a difference was it between the 6.0 and the 4.8? and are you happy with the end result?

6.0 hands down unless forced induction is in future.. that's usually the only way a 4.8 can really shine. But really I think the 6.0 swap has lost the "it" thing to do as the "1200hp" turbo 4.8 seems to be the new fad.. lol.

It's funny how the entire thinking process of this site has changed.

Prior to 2008 or so, the 4.8 and 5.3s were considered basically worthless. The 6.0 swap was the only way to go if you wanted to go fast. Now, things have flipped. I know when I was contemplating my 6.0 swap back in 2007 I didn't even consider anything else. The stock 4.8 was "garbage"

Exactly... but boy did those 4.8s increase in value lol. Thanks hot rod magazine and Foose04! I sold 4 of those little guys lol. I still will and am going 6.0 when my little junkyard 5.3 expires ... why would anyone not.. same weight.. same parts... and more power? Granted it may not take 18psi stock like a 4.8.. but I still think 6.0>4.8/5.3 all day. I have super respect for foose and few other guys that have done wonders with their 4.8s but these guys are elite and putting some serious parts in support. You can't just throw a kb kit on a cam 4.8 and easy 10's like some think.
