Default 4.8 or the 5.3?????

I had a 4.8 in my 03 Silverado. It ran good but I checked and the 07 has 295 hp wasnt the 03 only like 240 hp. The 5.3 in 07 is only 310 hp. Is it going to be worth it to spend the extra money. I do tow a 26 ft enclosed trailer about once a month other than that its just a daily driver.

Thanks for any help,

Erik

The 5.3 makes considerably more torque than the 4.8 so I would imagine you'd be much happier with the extra lb-ft.

Your right that is what is the grunt behind the truck. I think it is only like 30lbs of torq more. Think that would make that much of a difference?????

There have been a few of these threads in the past about these two motors and the concensus is always GO FOR THE EXTRA CUBES.

the 4.8 is kinda a dog down low. go with the 5.3 its only 600 dollars more and it will tow better. my dad got the 4.8 and when he is towing a boat he dont like it. thats why i have to tune it when i get back home.

The only way a 4.8 is any good is if there is a Radix on top of it. Otherwise I would get the 5.3. The 4.8 is a high revver but weak in the lower rpm's. Not what you want for a truck. BTW in 2003 the 4.8 had 270 hp and 285 ft.-lb. torque.

What gears do you have?

Get a tune and regular bolt on's, also swaping to 3.73 or 4.10 will make a difference if you have 3.42's in the way it tows and you won't lose to much mileage every day.

Go with the 5.3L. Why buy a new truck with less than 300 cubic inches, especially if you use it for truck type uses.

Well I did it. I ended up getting a used 06 with 5600 miles. It has the flex fuel 5.3. It seems to have alot of grunt on the low end. Thanks for your guys input it actually helped sway me in the right direction. There was an 06 with the 4.8 I liked it alot but the 5.3 I think was the right way to go.
