Default 22s=big brakes?

I have a set of 22s on the way w/ 305/45s and have been told that my stock brakes won't stop the truck at all...not sure how true that is because I see tons of guys running 22s and also lifted guys with 36s/37s and bigger on stock brakes. I know it won't stop as well, I but need new ones anyway (65K) so I'm going to upgrade alittle bit, nothing super $$, though. I was checking out the SSBC short stop kit and the Powerslot/Hawk LTS combo. For a little more than the Powerslot combo I can get the SSBC F/R 14" rotor/caliper bracket upgrade. What's everybody running? Likes/Dislikes?

I haven't upgraded mine and the yukon stops fine. I am going to go to the powerslot 2 piece 14" rotors and pads soon though.

Powerslot makes a great 14" oversize kit which costs roughly half of the Baer kit.

I rode on 22's on my 94 silverado for 2 years, no problems. Rode on 22's for a year on my 99 denali, then switched to 24's for another year or so. No problems. Bought my 02 denali and rode on 24's with stock brakes for a few months, again no problems. Occasional towing, frequent hellraising on backroads.

I did upgrade to baer big brake kit with drilled/slotted rotors all around and russell lines. It did make a difference, mainly in pedal feel and travel (rock solid). Stopping distance may be slightly improved, but I wouldnt say it was a dramatic change. They are a bit harder to fade when raising hell on backroads, but the calipers in this kit are basically identical to stockers front and rear from what I could tell. The rotors are about an inch larger and drilled/slotted, so that's the real benefit. If I had it to do over again I would have gotten oversized rotors only, and relocated the stock caliper brackets to accomodate them. I could have powdercoated my stock calipers red myself and been just as well off. They do make those kits that do this at tirerack.com (front wheels only I believe) which is really all you need for about 500 bucks.

I got 22s on my sierra with the same size tires. They are just a bit harsher on the breaks than a 16 or 17 wheel, but stop just fine. So being that i do have more room for larger breaks, it's time for an upgrade. Besides, the main reason rims started getting bigger were so that they could fit larger breaks. But of course that was back when everyone was running 14" wheels too.

RotaryResurrection, where'd you get the train horn from? Both factory horns on my 03 sierra have stopped working, and some of them dumb asses out there can't hear me coming and pull right out in front of me.

This is the exact kit I have. Now they advertise 150+ and not 160, but it's up there somewhere. And yes, fools WILL move out of your way. I have had people pull out into my lane from an intersecting road, only to pull right back off onto the shoulder out of my way when I lay into the horn for about 3 seconds.
