2008 silverado vortec max eats lifters
#1
I have a 08 silverado vortec max that the 6.0l LS2 motor. It ate a lifter about a month ago and i brought it in to the dealer for a warranty repair and they replaced all 16 lifters. 2 days ago the same thing happened and they changed 8 lifters, i asked them to change them all and they wouldnt do it, they dont know why this is happening and neither do i. I got the truck today and bam on my way home check engine light again, it doesnt sound like it ate a lifter again but i have no clue what is wrong with this thing. Any help would be appreciated or insight to the problem.

That truck has a L76 6.0 but if it trashed the cam and they are just throwing new lifters on top there's the problem. I've seen more than one LS engine trash a cam when the lifter/lifters fail.
If it did eat another lifter you can assume the cam is the culprit and I would be heavily pushing for a new motor or a full rebuild of your current engine due to huge amounts of metal contamination in the engine and if it is not cleaned out you can definitely expect shortened engine life if it's not already in the process of failure. Bearings do not like metallic particles in the oil. Be nice be courteous and if they do not fix it correctly call the gm customer assistance number in the back of your owners manual and start crawling up that tree until a satisfactory repair has been performed.
Take it back and make them see what the SES light is. Don't assume it ate another lifter prematurely. If it did eat another lifter I would **** moan and complain with the dealer and make them fix it right. Gm does a fairly decent job doing correct repairs up to 3/36. Once they get to the almost out of warranty point that your truck is at they make the dealer cut all kinds of corners just to get it back out the door a long lasting quality repair is not on the TO DO list. As far as they are concerned it's got to make it out the door and to the 5 year or 99,999.9 mark on the odometer. If it dies after that tough luck time to buy a new truck as far as they are concerned.

I agree fully i personally checked the cam, and there were no nicks on the lobes and didnt destroy another lifter im positive, it has a slightly rough idle not a misfire. I just cant wrap my head around what is happening. It is throwing a misfire code though.
