2007 excessive oil comsumption
#22
They pump an excessive amount of oil into the valvetrain. When there is too much in the valve covers the PCV sytem gets flooded and you end up ingesting the oil through the pcv and burning the oil that way. I've seen one truck with 4800 miles 3 quarts low because of it. Never had an oil change, but that wouldnt have made a difference, its not an oil problem but a mechanical issue with the lifters.

Keep in mind gentlemen, that there are probably 100 different things that an factor in, an engine using different amoutns of il. No engine made, will run properly without some from of oil consumption. So check the standards and see if you fall in the niche or "excessive".

GM has released the latest part that is supposed to stop the oil consumption. It's an oil deflector. The GM part# is 12639759.
And by the way, really from the 1999 new body and GenIII engine change, they have all exhibited some sort of oil consumption.

i thought my truck was slightly low on oil...
did an oil change last weekend. drained the oil into a drain pan. changed the filter. refilled the truck with oil (from a 5qt jug and a 1 qt bottle, truck takes 6qts). when i drained the drain pan back into the oil jug to have it recycled. it barely filled the bottle up past 4 qts. i thought this was odd, but now i see what happened.
i haven't noticed any oil smoke yet, but now i will definitely look for it.

Just picked that little deflector up at GM. Anyone installed one yet. I have my pan off of my L92, and that deflector could face up or down or be clocked in any direction...
