1999 ECSB 2WD Silvy to 6L80 Project
Ok guys. The time has finally come for my Silverado to get it's time in the shop. I'm wanting some input on build direction. I already have a 6L80 TBSS AWD (albeit it awaiting body work repair from a hit and run) and 6L80 LS2 04 GTO will be coming out of the shop in a couple of weeks, so outside of a parts runner and tow truck, no quite sure what kind of 'build' spin on it. Plus, I'm seriously thinking of getting a Silverado SS.
So here's the story. It's an original 400k 5.3L, rust free South Carolina 2WD LT Silverado, loaded. And everything works. A/C, CD player, etc. Sometime recently the 4L60 was replaced for a reman'd unit, but also recently the fuel pump and it's replacement took a , so I've just had it sitting. The motor, while strong off the line, was sucking oil as quickly as it did gas, so it's time for a shot in the arm.
Lying around the garage I have an TBSS LS2, a GMT900 4.8L, and a 6L80 transmission. Obviously the 6L80 is going in, but unsure where to go with the build.
So here are my options:
1- Project Status Quo: Stick 4.8L in it with 4 speed reman'd still in it, use it as parts/tow runner and just start with a Silverado SS.
2- Project Low Budget Sleeper: Stick 4.8L in it with 6L80 and boost it.
3- Project Silverado RS: Swap in LS2 with some N/A upgrade hardware with 6L80.

There will never be enough turbo silverados. That has my vote.
Although, a 6L80 in a 454ss sounds cool. I never liked the fact that they didn't have overdrive and the stock cams only pulled to 4k. A friend had a low mileage pristine example years ago and that thing was a dog. A modern trans and a better cam would really wake one up and make it more fun and practical to drive.

Getting there
Pulled the junk out of the bed to get it ready for the shop next week. :locked up 4200 I6 and broken and rusted LS2.
Then unloaded the '06 LS2 (said to have about 65k miles). Leaning towards twin turbocharging the LS2

I have a 250k mile '02 ecsb 4.8 truck, clean and straight, needs paint, can't decide between dropping a 6.0 in, 4.5" lift and 33's on 20's, and paint, or drop it on late model 20's, with a 6.0. Either way, new **** is ugly, and this is just a spare vehicle.
I vote turbo LS2&6L80!
