I haven't heard squat about this in the past year. Did all the manufacturers ****-can the idea or what?

The government and EPA made the certification so difficult and expensive they had to kill off the projects.

Yep it's a shame. They are also the ones destroying the newer diesel trucks with more emissions and more standards. Notice how the new diesels don't get **** for mpg? Thank the EPA and government cause like always they can't leave a good thing alone

Gm's financies going in the ****-can was also cited as reasoning for them to suspend indefinitely the r&d for the 1/2-ton 4.5L D-max.

I don't remember hearing that, but my memory isn't the greatest. I mean I member em killin off projects, but I thought it was more the situation they were goin thru at the time. They always satg **** like that - It takes away from our core of what we're really after. Really? I'll bet people would line up for a 4.5 diesel 1/2 ton.

Evidence? While I couldn't verify how the new ones MPG is in relation to the older ones as I've never owned 1 for personal use, only for work. See mileage info on next comment.

Yep, that's the reason I read / heard. My bro sounded like he wanted to buy 1. I'm not a diesel guy myself. I can't the smell, but I can't argue w/. a 7000# truck that can cruise at 35-45, & knock down 15-17MPG, sometimes more. It serves it's purpose. I mighta even looked at 1 if it actually happened in a 1/2 ton.

Go look on the dealer lots right now.....you won't see any LMM duramaxes on the lot unless they still have one or two left over. None in the area here. There's 2 on a lot at another dealer but its 40min away. GM had to halt production and retool their production for the new 2011 duramax to meet the new EPA guidelines.

Thanks to the stricter emissions (note a diesel is cleaner than a gas engine) but the government just wants to stick their nose in everything to make everyone suffer in their lives just so they aren't alone. You could get 23mpg out of a 5.9 tuned cummins. Now with the new emissions, hell the 6.7 might if lucky get 18mpg

With all the new emission stuff the mileage does suffer A LOT. CAT, one of the most recognizable diesel engine makers will not be making a on road engine any more because they cannot meet EPA restrictions and fuel economy.

My friends 08 LMM picked up 3-4 mpgs by taking off his DPF. In 2011 or 2012 there will be urea injection too, so your gonna have to fill up with urea and diesel.

6.7? Is that what the 5.9 Cummins became?

IDK the various GM diesel codes, I've seem LMM, but unsure of other. The Duramax is a beast tho. I saw how much power it's estimated GM will have em kickin out for new model. It's crazy.

I never knew a diesel was cleaner. How's that even possible? Most of the big trucks I see & smell em. Are u referrring to the newer bio-diesels w/. ash-cans?

My bro used to tell me about some of the truck chassis's he hauled. Said there'd be 300HP CAT's & so on. 2 of his favorites were: a propane 496 gas & I think his all out fav was a 600HP Peterbuilt. Said it pulled & pulled.

DPF?
So now u really can take a **** in the gas? And run on it?
