Default 05-07 classic and 07-now electric fan differences

I'm in the research stage of doing an electric fan upgrade. I'm going with a 34 inch two row core radiator and a stock dual fan setup for an 05+ truck. I have been searching evil bay and came across several options but Dorman stands out. Its more of a name brand and instills a little more trust than all the other China knock offs do. After doing some research and 05-07 classics and 07-present half tons actually use a different fan assembly. Whats different I don't know but the Dorman part number for the Classics is 620-652 and for the 07+ is 620-654. I've seen both in person on multiple occasions and have never noticed anything obviously different about them. They both fit 34 inch radiators, dual fans, same connectors if I'm not mistaken, same bolt pattern, same lower mounts, everything is the same from what I can tell, all accept the part number and the prices. The 620-652 for the 05-07s is nearly 400 dollars while the 620-654 for the 07+ is 200 is less. Does anyone know what the difference is?

I was able to find pictures of each. Granted this are internet pictures so I'm not going to say they are 100% accurate but they do show one obvious difference. Take a look.

The only difference I see is that one plastic tab circled on the right side and at the top between the two fans there is a hole for whatever reason. Other than that they appear identical to me. I'm not the smartest person ever but my air body saw cuts plastic to and if it means saving 200 bucks to get essentially the same exact part I bet I could afford to plug my compressor in and trim that tab off if it even interferes. Anyone else get the same feeling?

One last edit. I just remember what that tab is for. There is a speed clip that goes there and the top tranny cooler line has a clamp that bolts to it.

You don't need to cut that part off because it does not interfere with your installation. The only difference I was told is the 05 type fan was a 7 blade/5 blade set up and the new fans are 7/7 blade. I put the 7/7 fans on and have had no problems.

I was working on a 07 new body Yukon today and looked it over good and measured some things and you are right that extra tab shouldn't effect anything at all. I wasn't aware of the difference in blade count but 7 and 7 is definitely better.

I got to searching late last night and found a brand new set of Dorman 07+ fans for 159 + 11 shipping so 170 shipped to my house.

Were you able to make the E fans work for your set up? How was the quality of them?

Well after looking the fans over closely I found a crack right in the center between the two fans. Got ahold of the guy and the new ones should be arriving shortly. The fans were correct but the quality did look a little weak. The plastic has this sort of fiberous appearance to it. I've seen it before but can't place it but it just looks like it could be fragile which is probably why it cracked. Never the less I think its going to work but I will just have to be careful not to jar or jab the fans somehow. We'll see what happens. I still need to get a fan harness.
