03 Silverado sloppy steering after rebuild
Hey guys,
Got a quick question.
My brake lines blew so I figured I'd redo the front end while I had the whole thing up on jacks (175k so it was probably time).
I did new inners, outers, idler and pitman arm. Got it lined up, but now the steering feels ridiculously sloppy; I can turn the wheel from like 12-10 without affecting the steering.
I haven't gotten under to take a look since today is the first day in new England it's been over 45 degrees in a longgg time.
Any ideas where to look? The truck drives straight, so I'm thinking the alignment is fine, but what the hell could they have screwed up or did I screw up? I used moog parts everywhere.
Thanks in advance.
Jim

its probably the steering box unless something is loose, never hurts to double check everything that moves or connects to moving stuff. have someone move the wheel in the dead spot and get under and see if the shaft is moving up to the box but not the pitman arm.
I just did the same on my 03 and replaced it all including the box since mine had lots of play like your describing, but mine has had big heavy wheels for quite awhile and awd which isnt easy on steering components.
You could also try tightening up the box with the adjusting screw, just dont over-do it..

Skolman, much appreciated. That's what I was worried about. Soon as I get someone to help, I'll get under there and take a look. Figured I'd ask if there was something common that people have dealt with
