i have caltracs on my truck and i have just a whimpy 4.8 with bolt ons 4.10s 3600 verter and i can spin the tires doing 15 to 20 no problem but if i put a set of DR on it dead hooks no spin even from a stop deaf worth the money i bought mine used off a member on here

thats^ what i had in my head as far as them looking for the front part, at least thats the only thing i can come up with not removing the bushing. which brings up another question, why do caltracs remove the bushing? to get the movement out of the bushing by making it solid?

 

Dumpd04, you have a lock-nut upside down on a u-bolt.

Setup looks pretty nice.

The aluminum bushing is there to eliminate deflection. With a setup like this, I think you should at least switch to poly bushings.

 

BTW, you guys don't have to drop the tank for Cal-tracs. Cut that long bolt down, next to the nut before you remove it. Then you can sneak it out, and back in. Use a little loc-tite going back together if you're nervous about it. I've never dropped a tank to work with the leaf springs.

 

Exactly. I did just that back in 2004 and haven't had trouble since.

 

I'm just surprised at how many people won't do something like this because they don't want to drop the tank. Figured it was a good tip to give.

 

i thought about doing that when i did my drop leafs, but still didnt look like it would come out when cut. ended up i needed new bolts up front anyways so wish i did try it, but i did put the bolt in the outter side so no more messin with tank till pump time.. which i hear takin the bed off is still easier than taking the tank down..

 

Don't take the bed all the way off. Remove the left bed-bolts, loosen the right bed-bolts, disconnect the filler neck, unplug the tail harness. Find a buddy and a jackstand. Lift the left side of bed, jackstand goes between the frame and bed.
