Questions about efans
#1
Wanting to do some efans on my 01 5.3.
1. Where the best place to buy? Can u get these new or just off a junked truck? I'd like to buy new, or if someone has some for sale....
2. What's the benefit of 05 plus fans? My 05 suburban has efans and they are nice.
3. When I do my headers I'll be getting a tune. Should I do this at the same time and can they tune my efans for stock temps?
4 how does the harness physically hook up to the truck?
Edit: I have no idea why I posted this is the classified section

I went with the derale efans.
Not sure how easy it will be finding 05 Efans at a salvage yard.
Nelson and Black Bear have the harness that you will need.
I would wait for the Headers to get them tuned in.

1. anywhere where you can find some. you have the 28in rad as it sits now, and so you need some ls1 fans. These are plentiful and for sale all the time, and I found a set at a salvage yard for $40 bucks. The 05+ fans are 34" and you would need the bigger radiator, these are much harder to find.
2. they are big and work well
3. They can go ahead and set the temps in the tune when you have them adjust for your headers, even if you dont have them hooked up.
4. The best way is to use a harness (like nelson or blackbear) that connects 2 wires to the pcm. Yours being an 01 might be slightly different from the 03+ since you dont have dual speed control. Yours will be either on low with the AC or on high if it gets too hot.

Does derale have a site I can hit? Is there a specific partnumber I'll need? How about the harness, just hit nelsons site and find one?
I see you have a 34" radiator...what's that all about? More cooling capacity? What size is the stock rad?
Sorry so many questions
edit: thanks atomic. So I'd have to buy a 34" radiator from a salvage yard or something to use the 05 fans? Might just get ls1 fans then. I ha a set off a camaro once but sold them. Should ijust try and find another one of those?

In my humble opinion...stick with the clutch fan. Voltage dip, relay dumps and general hassle arent worth the ~20hp u gain. Besides, @ WOT the clutch fan disengages anyway. All I'm saying is that if I had the choice again, I wudnt recommend it - in fact if I have 1 more relay failure, its back to clutch fan. I use the Nelson harness, but if u do it urslef, use the heaviest guage wire u can manage. I've heard good things about both Nelson and BlackBear's, but strangley there's not much on here about the problems u have going to E-Fans!
