I bought a brand-new D505 from Dell for around $900 total. Has the serial port required for tuning which a lot of new laptops don't have now (most are all USB 2.0). It's "bottom of the line", but has a 1.3Ghz Celeron M (4.5 to 5 hours battery life), 512MB RAM, 14.1" display - plenty for the task of tuning, and has a warranty to boot. This is the route I decided to go.

I would rather pay $900 for a new one from Dell with a warranty, than half that for one off EBay with no warranty whatsoever....but obviously I would, because that's what I did.
