FS: 4.8 and 5.3 shortblocks
#1
Hey guys... been a while since I've been in here. I still have a 4.8L shortblock and a 5.3L shortblock. They are both dissasembled at the moment as I wanted to check them out to make sure there were no spun bearings or broken/cracked parts.
Both come with block, pistons, rods, rings (original), crank, windage tray, pickup tube, oil pan, front cover, valley cover, and rear cover, timing chain, and I can put in any number of spare stock F-body cams I have on the shelf.
Honestly, they are good motors that I picked up in trade a while back, and i'm just running out of room in my garage to house them. I was going to use them to pioneer the iron 5.7L idea, but life has just gotten in the way, and I no longer have the time/drive/money to pursue it any longer.
I'd like to sell them for $100 each (+shipping) as they sit.(disassembled)
I would reccomend that both blocks be vatted as they have been sitting in my garage for almost a year now, and could use a good cleaning. Your local machine shop should be able to do this for $20 - $50 depending on their pricing.... (around here my local shop charges $40)

I don't know the exact mileage of either of them, but based on the bearing wear on the 5.3, i would put the mileage in the 15k - 20k range, and it wasn't run hard, as there isn't any scuffing on the piston skirts, and the #3 main (thrust) bearing didn't have signs of hard driving (thrust surfaces looked almost new).
The 4.8 is in about the same condition, but again, exact mileage is unknown. Both motors had some form of Penzoil manufactured oil run in it as the pistons are a bit 'sticky' on the wrist pins if you try to rotate the piston beyond it's normal travel pattern. I've seen this many times in the LS1's and truck motors, and it's due to a waxy build up that's common in the Penzoil/Coastal oils. A simple dip in some Berryman's parts cleaner for a 20 minutes usually gets rid of this. Using a better oil, like Mobil1 or Castrol GTX will prevent this from occuring.

I've got several cams, and all are for sale. There is one on my shelf that has a bit more lift to it, but I'm not sure if it's just on a bigger base circle or what. I don't know if there are any true defining marks that you can use to differentiate a 6.0 cam from a 99 f-body from a 00 vette cam...
If I know what to look for, I can go check, though.
