I picked up a complete fully dressed LS1 locally off craigslist. I needed the accessories, wiring, pcm, bracketry, etc. for my LS6 swap into my c4 (I already have a low mile bare LS6), and this seemed like the quickest and easiest way to get all the hardware I needed. I am therefore left over with an LS1 core engine that I do not need at this time.
The guy I got it from said that he had bought it to put in his GF's LT1 camaro but they broke up before he could. He said he paid $1600 for it from a reputable local junkyard. It is supposed to be a 98 LS1 with about 118k miles on it. From looking at it and the accessories I see no glaring problems, but I am not a piston engine guy (that sounds wierd, so I guess I should state that I am a rotary guy).
I have not seen it run, as it was on a pallet when I bought it. I can offer no warranty or guarantee on it, if you have read the 2 paragraphs above then you know as much about it as I do. I see no reason to think it would not run fine as it is.
I will be glad to take pics of specific area of the engine if you have requests.
This engine has the 806 heads and perimeter bolt valve covers. The only other things included are the valley cover.
I also have left over the exhaust manifolds/egr/air stuff, the coils/wires/harnesses, and what appears to be a reman waterpump from this engine that I can also sell with it or seperately.
Engine is located in east TN and is available for inspection or pickup weekday afternoons or evenings plus saturday afternoons.
I frequently ship engines truck freight so I can set this up for you if you wish. I would guess that this weighs in the 375lb range palleted, so expect shipping costs to be in the $175-350 range depending on your location. I do not ship outside the 48 US.
PRICE IS $1100 NEGOTIABLE.
I will accept cash (local pickup), paypal or US post office money orders for payment.

show me one selling for less? I'm half sarcastic and half serious. I really had/have no idea how to price this, so I looked around for a while to see what other 100k+ mile bare engines sell for. The lowest one I found was $900, and I priced this one to give myself some wiggle room for the bitchers and whiners on the internet.
I also see bare empty blocks selling for 4 or 500 dollars, rotating assembles another 2 or 3, and heads maybe 100-150, plus misc hardware and covers about $100, so it still adds up that way.
I realize I cannot say anything about seeing it run personally, but people and junkyards sell engines in similar condition all the time, and they don't give them away. I considered tearing it down to look at the internals, but I figured I'd give it a while to sell whole first, since most people want a whole engine rather than parts and pieces. I considered pulling a main and rod bearing cap off to see what the bearings and crank looked like, but I figured someone would bitch about reusing those fasteners once they are loosened so I figured I would not do that for the time being.

Check out that link:

I'm not asking you to cut your price to that, but the accessories are pretty desirable and that's why people pay so much for them.

Yeah, but you must also admit that that's the nature of ebay...sometimes people bid out the *** for something not worth too much, and sometimes people fail to bid on stuff that is worth more. It just depends on luck of the draw, who is watching, when the auction closes, etc. You've posted 2 examples of abnormally low selling prices, especially for the 66k mile motor.
I know for a fact I could sell the bare block itself for 400 dollars all day long, crank for another 100, heads for 150, pistons/rods 100-150, covers/cam/oilpump/hardware 75-100, so there's no way I'd go below 900 for it as it is. Less than that, and I'll just take the damn thing apart and sell the pieces and get the value out of it that way. Either way it is worth 900 as near as I can tell.
I'm an import guy and that's one thing that leaves a really bad taste in my mouth about the domestic crowd. It's all a bunch of guys that think they know everything about cars and engines, and most everybody is a "racer". If they have something you are trying to buy then it is worth it's weight in gold and you should buy it because it is hard to find. If you have something they are trying to buy then it is a pile of **** and not worth much and you should sell it cheap because no one will ever buy it otherwise. That's not directed at you, just a generalization of the community I've noticed in my limited dealings thus far.

I look for something I want and I try and find a good deal on it. I found two engines with no accessories close to your engine and those were the two I posted. If you think you can easily sell the engine in parts then by all means do it.
I think you'll be hard pressed to find someone willing to pay $1100 for a bare engine on here. If you do then more power to you, there's a sucker born every day.
I was looking to see if you were willing to budge on the price, when you asked for some examples I posted them. I'm looking to buy an ls1 or an lq4. I posted in this thread hoping you would realize your price was inflated and we could work out a deal.
As far as your theory on domestic guys. Most have taken a basic business class where they learned to buy low and sell high. Of course people want to sell things for high prices and demand low prices when they buy. That means they aren't idiots.
I find most people who sell parts they know very little about, get upset and offended when they find the harsh truth it's not worth near what they're asking. That's not directed toward you, but just something I've noticed.

One day...maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but one day, someone will blow an engine and need one to drive around on, and they will come to me when they see mine is still sitting here waiting to be bought and they cannot find another one during that week that they need one. Or maybe someone local will buy it because they can save 2 or 300 dollars in wasted shipping money over one they may find elsewhere.
Bottom line, it isn't hurting anything sitting with all the other parts in my garage waiting to be bought one day...it's just money in the bank for a rainy day.
