Question ZO6 Cam & springs #s?

I am looking at using a ZO6 cam in my truck. I have the part number for the cam, 12565308 but am not sure of the springs number? My dealer gave me two possibilities. He says the VIN tells in the 9th digit. For the S motor it is 12565313. For the G motor it is 12553696. Any one know which is the ZO6 spring?

the S in the 8th digit of the vin is a z06...the Z06 spring has been superceded by part number 12586484....this is supposed to be the spring that is going to be in the LS2 on the C6 corvette...i have a set of the new springs for my vette...the have a orange stripe and are made in germany.....the old LS6 springs were yellow for 2002 and newer models and blue (i think) for the 2001 year

Thank you very much. Just the info I needed. Should have called the Chevy dealer vs. my GMC dealer I guess!

YOU WILL HATE THAT CAM! I HAVE IN MINE AND DYNO SHOWED 285 RWHP, BUT IT DOES NOT COME ON UNTIL 4,000 RPM. THE LOBE SEPERATION IS TOO MUCH. THE 4.8 IS LOW ON TOURQUE (1/2 INCH LESS STROKE THAN 5.3) & THAT CAM DOES NOT HELP IT. IT IS MADE FOR A SIX SPEED THAT WEIGHS ALOT LESS THAN YOUR TRUCK SO THE POWER RANGE IS VERY PEAKY. I USED THE FACTORY SPRINGS & HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS. I STILL MADE HORSEPOWER AT 6100 RPM. I HAVE THE DYNO SHEET IF YOU WOULD LIKE A COPY. I USED THE CAM BECAUSE I WORK AT A CHEVY DEALERSHIP & IT COST US ONLY 189.00, IT WAS CHEAP. I WISH I WOULD HAVE GOTTEN A RV CAM WITH SOME USABLE H.P. & TOURQE.

Yea. I called Comp Cams today and they said the same thing. They recommended their 54-424-11 cam (212 I & 218 E @ .50, 115* lobe seperation) with 26918-16 springs and 7955-16 rods. I was going for the inexpensive. A guy has a new 03' ZO6 cam/springs on Ebay pretty cheap. Comp changed my mind. That sucks. Guess I will have to save money. Seems everyone one want in the $350 range or more for the cam and another $250 for springs & rods. I am glad I found out before I got it and installed. it. I just found what bumping the rev limiter and raising the shift point rpms can do to wake up my truck. I would have really hated to kill it with the cam. Thanks for the info.

I got the 54-412-11. Pretty much the same as the cam you listed but with different lift #'s and lower LSA. 212/218 .522/.529 114. I was kinda shyed away from a high lift cam by a few people. And the 54-412-11 came highly recommended by several people. From what I have seen those that have used it are very happy with the gains. I didnt go for the 918's. I chose some 02 LS6 springs instead. Im confused on one thing though.... When I ordered my springs, I used part #12565313. Is that the right number for the 02 LS6 springs??? Or did I get the wrong ones?

Sorry to dig up an old thread.

Everyone hates this cam, but very few have used it. Some who used it don't like it and some do. I am one of the ones that love this cam. My buddy picked up 36rwhp and lost 5rwtq, his old truck. We just installed another one and some ported heads on his new truck, but have not dynoed it yet. With the ported heads it lost no low end power and pulls forever up top.
Comp $350+$250+$750(stall)+$500(tune)=
Z06 $200+$100+$750(stall)=
You will need a stall converter for the cam to work well. It works perfect on a stock tune, no misfires or MAP codes. Idles just like stock.
Just my opinion.
P.S. Before I get blasted, EVERY truck needs a good tune to run good.
