Y-pipe differences...
I have a question about the flat spot and restriction in the Y-pipe where the exhaust crosses underneath the tranny.
My '02 5.3 had this, but my '04 6.0 does not. Mine's a solid 2.25" or 2.5" all the way across, and hangs lower than the old 5.3's.
Is it just the 6.0's that have this non-flattened tubing - part of the crossover pipe design vs Y-pipe on the 4.8/5.3 - or did GM start doing this differently sometime in the last few years?
I've heard a few problems with header installs, and wondering if the two are related.

My 03 SS has the exact same pipe as my 99 5.3 did, with the exception of the actual Y merge collector. It has the same flat spot as it crosses under the trans. Its a 2.5" pipe with the same cats as my 99 truck.
Your 04 model is supposed to have a new updated type catalytic converter. I bet thats why it has a new pipe. Take some pictures.

Huh... I didn't know that about the updated cats. Do you know what's been updated with them?
You'll have to be patient for some pictures. I'm still catching up to the mid 90's, technology wise.
