Default Wtf!!! I Cant Stand My Truck

ok so here it is. i just bought a 2000 chevy silverado with the 5.3, and 70,000 miles on it, with intentions of putting a camburg long travel lift on it and everything else to go along with it. anyways... my engine knocks. i just replaced the fuel filter, the spark plugs (gapped at .006 as the deal said, or w/e, im not that good at math) and a new air filter. a have tried running 91 octane and it didnt help one dam bit. do you guys have any sugestions as to what it might be? i am only 18 and every since i was 14 i have wanted a trophy truck scale silverado and this dam engine is just ruining it. please help me guys.

since you just got it, they are not like the old style, just wipe on filter and put in 5 quarts and run it.
just in case you did not know or nobody told you it takes 6 quarts of oil.

Does it knock all the time or just when you first crank it?

is it more like piston slap or is it a knock on acceleration? I'd get the ECM read and see if you're throwing any codes, then replace every filter and change the oil to high mileage. Check for vacuum leaks inside the intake manifold, disconnect the battery and force the ECM to relearn.

If it's still doing it, take it to a mechanic.

what kind of knock are taling about a know like a rod knock or detenation.

If it did right after you changed the spark plugs make sure they are seated all the way in and are tight. If they are loose engough it will make a loud knocking type sound.

you dont have to disconnect the battery cable to make the pcm relearn or reset... cant you just turn the key to the on position, take out the two ecm fuses, turn the key off, turn the key back on and than put in the two fuses and than crank it? thats how i reset my pcm anyways... works for me. A little more effiecent than disconnecting the battery.. bc than i have to reset my radio presets lol

I noticed that too. I bet it wouldn't sound too good set at .006.
