Thats a dman good question. I have been thinking about that to. I wonder if youll pick up power. I would assume it would keep the temp down a bit under that hood which is a damn good thing.

The function of header wrap is heat insulation. The priciple is good but most wraps on non-coated headers will lead to premature failure...The header wrap being made of a cloth blend of some sort, has a tendency to trap condensation and in vehicles (especially those that traverse places oher than the streets) such as trucks, water as well. You can see the problem here...from the time the header takes to get warm enough to evap the water the metal is oxidizing. Rust will soon kill mild steel and tear through cheap welds.

my buddy has his headers wrapped on his 84 iroc, and it took i think about 4 years or so for his wrap to cause the headers to become corroded.
It was horrible, the wrap kept so much moisture in that when you unwrapped them, pieces of the wrap just fell off and the headers were rusted and had some holes in them.

Needless to say, on his new set, he didnt wrap them.
(BTW, his were wrapped in asbestos!)

Definetly DO NOT WRAP the headers. I bought a $900 exhaust system for my hayabusa and wrapped it. Only got a little wet once in 2 months. I pulled the wrap off to inspect the pipes and they were getting surface rust on them and corrosion. This was STAINLESS STEEL, thick stainless at that. Too much moisture from the condensation sets in the wrap. Not to mention the wrap didn't really help with the heat that much, I had it double wrapped and it still burnt the plastics. Get your headers ceramic coated. It looks good and will last a while as long as you don't spill anything on em hot.

Ditto! DO NOT WRAP YOUR HEADERS. I know from experience. It will not just make them rust. It will crack the tubes from all the heat. Had this problem when I wrapped a set of Edlebrocks. Luckily they replaced them but they said they wouldn't do it again. I had to be really nice to get it done. If your only drag racing its ok. Daily driving will destroy them. When you get you headers check the cautions and it will probably tell you not to wrap them.

A friend once had them on his car and helped cool the engine compartment and reduced noise some. I am not sure how long it would take for rust damage to come in , this guy had his on for about two years as a daily driver, he then got an extra truck to drive daily since the car was a '70 SS 454 Chevelle.
