with my selection of parts or would it be cheaper to just buy a longblock and be done with it? It seems like it would be much more satisfying especially for me to build the engine from the ground up. You could also taylor the engine to your needs then right?

It seems like it would be more of a pain building it from scratch, especially a 6.0. I would buy the longblock and just replace the parts that you want to replace. Just my .02

dont you think it would be fun though? I'm in no hurry at all to do this, so I could take my time.

Also, does anyone have any options on boring over or stroking the 6L iron block? What is the cost of new pistons if you do bore? And what is the cost of new rods if you stroke it?

Yeah, it would be, if you have the time and money! Go for it dude! I know the stock bore is 4.000" and that it has room to be bored a pretty good bit. Pistons/Rings should be around $600 and new rods around the same. Build-up crap is expensive, I know that now! Good luck!

I guess the other question is, would you rather build up a 6.0L iron block or a 5.7L ls6 aluminum block? There's about a 120LB difference with the heads on, but the 6.0L iron has about 20 more ci. Which one to do?

I also thought about boring the 5.7 to 4.00" but can it even bore that much? from what I have read it can only be bored over .010" without resleeving. But, anyways, bore the aluminum 5.7 to 6.0 and then just use all the LQ9 parts on it! would that work?

yea, but if you plan to do any power adders later down the road, like a 200 shot of nitrous. .. an iron block will hold up alot better than aluminum.
