Default is it worth keeping?

well when i pulled the 4.8 out of the truck i found 2 or 3 (cant remember) small metal chunks about the size of marbles in the oil pan. not too sure what the were but i also know one of the valvesprings were busted as well. i plan on tearing the motor apart down to the bare block. now my question is is it worth keeping it and getting it bored? or should i just try to sell it. getting it bored would be for a project way later on down the road. can a bored 4.8 make any real power or is it best to get a 6L block?

there's a few that are still trying to sell theirs . . . . keep it for a spare motor to blow up, or incase something happens to yours. The block is about the only good thing about it.

Even if you bore the 4.8 you still have the short stroke Max bore would only give about 5.2. Get a 6.0 instead.

You can make a forged 5.7 out of that block, if that's the way you want to go. Bore it out (not sure what size) and run a 4" stroker crank with the supporting hardware and you've got yourself a forged iron block 5.7L

Bore it to 3.90" and use LS1 pistons and crank.

Oops yeah, if you run the stroker crank and the LS1 bore like he said you get a 383. I forgot that.

If you run LS1 bore with LS1 crank, you get......duh.

Yes but, if he strokes it, he will also need new rods. And the combustion chambers on the 4,8 heads are too small for 5.7 or 383 displacement, so he would also need some 6.0 heads. It would be better to just put the money into a 6.0 long block.

haha thats a given. ls1 or 6.0 heads are cheap. hell with a forged stroker motor im sure he would be looking into a nice set of AFR's
