Default Will the HPP3 stop working??

My uncle has an 2002 silverado 1500 HD, LQ4, 4l80e etc etc, (he just has catback and K&N intake). He has about 140k on it and has a Hypertech programmer. He said recently the check engine light has been on and he uninstalled the Programmer and it went off, then he'll reinstall it and it will come back on. He's tried this several times to verify it. He also told me that there was something about this in the hypertech book... the programmer could possibly quit working after awhile, that just doesn't sound right to me since it just loads the program into the computer and the tune it loads shouldn't ever change. Anyone have any experience with the hypertech doing this?? It almost seems like its a sensor to me...We're gonna mess with it today and probably just end up filling out the form for a nelson tune but I wanted to know if any of yall have heard of this. Thanks

Ryan

Wow, thts odd. When he drove it with the engine light on, was the truck acting like the oem computer would act... like were the shift points and rev limiter re-set to stock with the engine light on?

There was no difference in the way it drove with it programmed, it still had the hypertech tune. I haven't rode in it yet but he'd have told me if it did. He just said the check engine light was on.

Oh yeah, he even called hypertech and they said that he'd need to send it in to have it fixed and I think he'd rather just go ahead and get the custom tune since I'm happy with mine. I'm just afraid that if its a sensor or something messed up that the Nelson tune won't fix it.

ya, well hopefully when he unprograms the hypertech and the light goes off.. the nelson tune wont make that sensor act up again.. the nelson tune will be fine and WAY better...and well, theres another reason to say the hell with handhelds ... i wont lie, i bought one, i started at square one once before too.. but ya live and learn i suppose.
