i think you should be able to take the old skool truck. my dad had a '90, it was pretty quick, but i think with all changes on the new trucks, you should win. j.m.o.
i raced a 98 vortec 350 when i had my truck stock, 5.3l single cab, and i took him pretty bad.

which also reminds me, i raced a f-150 about two weeks after i had my truck (bone stock) and i whipped his *ss. he put his window down to ask what i had, and i told him a 5.3l, and he said, damn i have a 5.4l, and you killed me. is your truck stock? yep sure is!!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> bite me ford boy!

I also took a 97-98 single cab Chevy (5.7) in my 4.8 by a few car lengths and all I had was Flowmasters and Airraid.

If memory serves me correctly, that truck had maybe 225 HP from the factory. Doesn't the 4.8 have 260 or so?? If those numbers are close, the cat back sure wouldn't make 35HP worth of difference.

Those are my thoughts... for what that's worth

P.S. - There is a HUGE difference between a 90 5.7 and a 96+ Vortec 5.7

The 00 and up 4.8 is rated 270hp at the crank. The early 90's 5.7 (before Vortec) was 220 at the crank according to the info I got. The 4.8 should smoke that 90' 5.7 if the gearing is close or the same.

The '90 will lose big time.

i had a 1990 ext cab 5.7 and that thing was pretty quick of the line. i could hang with a reg cab 5.3 until like 30mph. but then that thing would die off so fast. they were rated at 205hp and 300tq. so thats why.

i raced a 92 sierra 350 "ss" not sure if they even made the ss package for 350s, was my friends, but i dnot know jack about those engines.

but it was pretty close up to 20 or 30, but by the time we hit 90 i had about 3 truck lengths on him

not a fair comparison really, but my 4.8 feels WAYYYY more powerful than the 92 sierra (5.0 engine) i had before this....
