My 4.8 lasted 28k miles. I got a complete n20 system installed with basiclly every accessory and safety device posisble 4 weeks before the motor went to rest. I sprayed the 4.8 with a 100 wet shot a total of 5 times before it blew. 2 times on the dyno and 3 on the street. The 2nd time I sprayed the motor something got F'd up. We replaced the valvatrain(cam, springs, pushords) and the problem(the knocking noise) was fixed. 2 weeks after the cam job I get my updated tune and 10 miles into the new tune a plug was melted basiclly, a piston was all kind of tore up,and on of the heads was damaged. This all happened while me and my buddy were scanning the truck not on n20! My truck went really really lean when this happened and that along with some other things didnt mix. I always took damn good care of the truck and that just shows you that there is always that chance. My buddy CRAZYCUTER4.8 dogs(twice as much as I ever did) the **** out of his 03' EC 4.8 and sprays 200 shot with no safety devices all the time and his truck has held up for 30k so far. As a whole I would sat that these motors are strong as hell!

I have got 139 000 miles on my 4.8 and about 70 000 of those mile there has been a whipple and a set of LS1 heads and a LS1 cam on it. I beat the crap out of it and it frequently see's 6000 RPM. It is get kinda lazy but other than that it is good.

Few engine blow up stories, these are tough engines.
Now the 4L60E, THAT is more of a worry IMHO....

Not sure if you were asking me Derik, but yeah. On the stock bottom end I was shifting at about 6500-6600rpm. Towards the end of my tuning phase with the big cam I was going so fast through the 1/4mile N/A that I was barely able to stay in 2nd gear without hitting the rev limiter at 6700rpm. Held up pretty good. I did have comp 918 valve sorings and good pushrods though.

I've got that LS6 cam and springs. I wonder if I could move my shift point to about 6200. Shifting at 6k gives the came room, I just feel like it is still making power right when I shift.

I don't see what it could hurt to try it out... I used my G-Timer quite a bit while trying different shift points and staying in 2nd gear through the 1/4mile a made a big diff. in my times. Logically I thought that I was shifting way to high because even though HP stayed steady to 6700+rpm, TQ was dropping. But it worked well. I guess when I really thing about it, peak HP was at 6K RPM and you're supposed to shift about 500rpm above peak HP no?
