Default Whipple air bypass /non whipple electronics question

Is it true that you have to disconnect the air bypass valve on the whipple supercharger when using a pcm tune like nelson/pcmforless? If so.. then does that completely do away with thier whole thing about how it doesn't boost at highway speed and give good highway mpg etc etc?

no, you don't eliminate the whole bypass. just unhook all the active boost control crap. do a search, there are some pics floating around here somewhere that showed how to do it.

If you attempt to leave it vacuum actuated, it will not stay fully closed. I have given some thought to putting a switch on the solenoid, but I haven't tried it yet. The thread that the above link takes you to just describes how to render the bypass non-functional. I don't know of anyone with the whipple computer removed who is still taking advantage of the bypass function.

Nope, it works just fine. I show 15-20 PSI of vacuum at idle and 11 PSI at WOT with ALL the Whipple electronics gone; the bypass works exactly as it should based on vacuum.

So is the active boost solinoid different from the air bypass? i gather that you are supposed to disconnect the solinoid and not the bypass? and that the bypass will still function properly without the solinoid etc etc...

Exactly. The solenoid is what causes the loss of boost when the Whipple electronic box detects anything 'dangerous' such as detonation, etc.
