Default Where do I get good deals on Air Filter & Exhuast?

I just got an 03 Marine Blue GMC Sierra SLE with the 5.3L, 3.73, and locking diff. I really want to get an exhaust and air filter system!

I think I want to go with either a Gibson or Dynomax ultraflo, probably a Dynomax. Does anyone know where I can get a Dynomax ultraflo system for a good price?

I also want to go with a K&N cone filter and new piping under the hood? Any good places to go for a well priced air filter, preferrably under $150?

Also does anyone have any suggestions of the order of mods? I am interested in the HP3 programmer but I would assume the exhuast and air filter should come first. Any help would be appreciated.

thanks,

Glenn

You can check the links on the right, www.tbyrne.com

www.thunderracing.com,

and http://www.ultimatepd.com/ are the only ones that I have seen that carry truck products. They usually have the best deals from what I have seen.

They have about the best intake going. I have one and several others here do to. I have had Airraid, K&N FIPK and now th UPD. The UPD showed the best dyno gains for me. As far as exhaust, I'll go ahead and say I'm not a big fan of Gibson. If your just looking for a little more rumble from your truck, just go to your locakl shop and have them throw on a Flowmaster or Magnaflow. Dynomax is a good muffler, but I had one and took it off because of to much resonance. But that was an Ultraflow welded seiries (on of their loudest). Other than that, Look at our sponsors on the right. LG Motorsports, Thunder Racing, Tbyrne, and MTI all have truck stuff.

Welcome to the site, and get ready to catch the mod bug <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

So what kind of exhaust does everyone think I should go with? Borla is nice but too expensive. I like flowmaster but was wondering wether a straight through muffler would be best.

Does anyone have any links to dyno tests of different exhaust and air filters to show power gains? That UPD is nice but at $270 is a bit expensive. I have seen an air raid pipe with k&N for $150, thats alot less than the UPD and I couldnt imagine the power difference being more than 1 hp or so. Not to mention the UPD doesnt even come with a drop in filter so the price moves up to $310+!

Anyway this forum looks to be great for all the perf. mod info I am looking for.

When I got my 03 Sierra I had the heavy duty trailering equipment option. I read something in a GMC brochure that it has to include the upgraded Z85 or other suspension yet I didnt get charged for it and it does not show up on my cars window sticker. Does anyone know how I can find out what suspension I have?

I checked the inner side of the door, the vin number and the sticker but know info helped. I would assume there is someway to look at the vin number if I had a GMC vin number key. Is there any info like this on the net?

Are there any other cool GMC/Chevy truck forums on the net?

thanks again for all the help and any more to come!

Glenn

as far as intakes go... here is my rating scale

1. upd - best looking and performing out right now, and maybe even the cheapest

2. k&n doesnt cost much more, still looks cool as well. this is what i have on my truck

3. airraid and volant are tied for last. Of the kits i have personally seen none can compete with the quality of the k&n or the upd kits

for mufflers... i had a gibson and i liked it. that is, until i got one of those ultraflow welded series that greg talked about. Sure love the sound of it, but it does have some resonation, but is pretty quiet untill you get on the gas for the most part. All depends on what your idea of "annoyingly loud" is

Have you ever seen one? Volant is a quality product, more air space and optional airtube is very nice. I know people make thier own for less money, but does ducting flow as well as a smooth tube. People say they are so exspensive, but I got mine shipped to my door for 259. If anyone is interested, I have a performance parts shop now and can beat that price. Monday I will be a sponser for this site, so call and check out my prices.

Thanks for all the input!

I think I will go with the K&N. Whats so cheap about the air raid systems? Are the pipes poorly made?

Hey "really slow truck" where did you get your Ultra flo system? I havent been able to find a complete system for my truck. Would a 2000+ GMC/Chevy 1500 exhaust system work on my 03?

Also I am thinking about a mild lowering. I dont want to make the ride rough since I really like the factory smoothness but want some more cornering ability. I heard the Hotchkis setup is nice. Anyone know of any other setups to go with? Prices for them?

Do you think drop front spindles (like beltech), which claim to maintain factory ride, are really that good?

Also I was thinking about getting some rear beltech 2" lowering shackles to even out the truck. I dont know much about shackles so are they just a purely cosmetic thing or would the handling perf. increase?

thanks again,
