Default Whats the Deal???

I go to start my truck this morning (this also happened last night) and look at my fuel gauge and for some reason it fluctuates from the half mark all the way to full then back down again then it goes to empty sometimes and then back to the half mark again... When the truck is thrown into drive though, it seems to be ok depending on its position b4 you throw it in drive... but it does eventually get to where its supposed to be while in drive after flooring it like two good times. Anyone know whats going on

Sounds like the fuel guage sending unit might be going out. I hear that's common on the NBS GM's.

I think the fuel pump and sending unit are one piece on these trucks. Someone please confirm!!! My 2000's unit was going out but I just lived with it until I sold it and bought a new 2004. Local Autozone didn't list a part # for a sending unit, I didn't ask about a fuel pump.
You will either have to drop the tank to get to it, or remove the bed to get acess to the top of the fuel tank.

It is in the tank snapped onto the fuel pump module. It is available through the dealer separately-I paid about $90 for mine. I think there is a service bulletin out on it-seems to be a common prob.

You have to drop the gas tank to replace it.
