Ok so you go and spend 3-4 grand on upgrades or your crazy and spend 15-20 grand on upgrades, what are you doing to protect your investment?
You have an alarm? Is that it? If I break into your truck and your alarm goes off, does it turn off when I put the key in and crank it over? What if you dont have an alarm? Relying on the factory security system?
Think about this... A thief can walk up to the window of your truck, write down the vin, and get a key made with any accomplis's help at a dealership, with just your Vin. Hell some would give it to you if you feed them some BS about locking your key in your truck.. Not bad enough?
You post pics of your truck on the internet, in the pics you show a side view of your truck, showing off the 3-4 grand worth of tires and rims... You show a pic with your hood open showing off your supercharger, another 4-6 grand.... Dont forget the pics of that bitching stereo with DVD and screens.. In the view from the rear side you show your license plate.
So now any thief signed up on the internet on one of the many sites that you can check registrations or any thief that has a buddy working for AAA or a buddy that is in law enforcement, can now get your address & VIN, and if he has someone at a dealership a key!
How simple did you make that?

Truth is if a thief wants your vehicle bad enough he will get it, but dont make it that easy! Dont let a guy walk up into your driveway, put a key in the door, unlock it, and then put the key in the ignition and drive away! At the very least, re-key your vehicle..

Unless of course you havent done any mods, and your upside down in your truck, and you have gap insurance.. Thats a whole other story!

i have a kill switch hooked up to the fuel pump, no fuel no drive off, the only way to take it is with a wrecker.

 

same here with a starter cut out as well. and she sits in the garage under arrest from a 375 winchester.

I have an alarm too, but I kept everything factory looking inside the cab. But what I always do here is put a club on it. lets face it they suck putting it on, but i think they work great. It will take them a little longer to steal it.

 

I have a nasty alarm with a LCD remote that tells me whats going on like 1/4-1/3 mile away and I rarely am that far from my baby! My alarm has a back up battery that has a back up battery. It has 2 back up sirens and they arent easily accessable-they are all over the place. If for some reason someone breaks my window which will set it off and gets in and has a key it wont matter because it will die. If someone tries to pop the hood the alarm goes off. If someone tries to get my wheels they are gonna run into 3 problems. First is I have numerous different wheel locks on each wheel, Secondly if my car gets jacked up there is an alarm that goes off when the truck isnt level and lastly when I hear my remote goes off Im coming out with a SKS with a 30 round clip! About the only thing I dont have on my alarm is the motion sensor around the truck and thats because I live in an apartment complex and my **** is out in the open so it would go off all the time plus the weather down hear would set it off but when I move to a house its on! Oh yeah and I dont leave anything in site! I always take my HU out and screen when its in! I also have a really really bright blue LED that blinks when the alarm is on. Hell I know people that just get a blinking LED and it keeps people away. There are some alarms out that arent worthy beleive that but I know the one I have and most of the good ones change codes like every 5 seconds or so!

 

On the newer trucks with class II data communication the simple & easy thing to do would be to splice into the communication wire from the bcm to the vats module that request vats verification, using A hidden toggle or push button you could wire this in series with say the relay for the passenger window allowing the button or toggle to only be in closed communication loop when the window switch is depressed.

for those of you concerned with accumalated mileage you can do a similar operation to kill speedo data to the ipc cluster. The cruise & all still works, you just quit registering miles on the ipc

 

Could you ellaborate a little on both of those? Any idea where I could get a wiring diagram for the vats to bcm??
At this point I dont drive my baby anywhere that I cant see it at all times. Its sad to say, but at this point I dont go to the bathroom without my glock and black talons. Nobody is up for a good clean fight anymore .

 

If my memory serves me... Doesnt the mileage get stored in the PCM and can be read with a TechII??

 

The security system could be wired like this:
- The relay would supply the power for the trigger device, (toggle or button)
- Your switch or button when enguauged would then supply closed loop communication
- this would of course be wired in a series circut so that both events would have to be
occuring in order for the vats or the bcm to have communication occur

As for the IPC cluster you would pull the cluster (03 & up) & the green wire with the white stripe going into the ipc is the communication feed from the bcm to the ipc. Installing a toggle switch would allow you to kill the feed to the ipc therefore not registering any mileage on the odometer.

You can not pull mileage with a tech 2 on 03 & 04, besides that the only thing that most of us would bring it in to the dealer for is nothing to do with drivability or drivetrain due to the heavy mods we have. It would be for water leaks, wind noise, electrical peoblems, window motors, ac operation & general stuff like that.

I have never had an occasion where we have even attempted to pull that info from the customers pcm. Most of our guys who do line work could care less, nor would be educated enough with the scanner to attempt it. It is not as if it is on the menu screen,
