I am planning on buying a truck as soon as I get back to the states. I want a 2wd Silverado shortbed reg cab. I know they come with 5.3's and 6.0's. Do they also come with 5.7's? What model years do they come in? 99 and up? Is the GMC Serria the same as Silverado? Sorry for the newbie truck questions

none the 99 and up nbs come with ls1 based motors like the ones you mentioned 4.8/5.3/6.0.
although a ls1 is a direct swap with maybe a little computer work.
Edit: and yes serria same as silverado as far as motors

Thanks, yall. I just want one with an LS1 based engine so I can easily put in a 5.7. I already have h/c that I was going to put in my TA, and also the Vig 3200 that will be coming out of the trans. I just want a nice daily driver truck that I can spank Lightnings with. BTW, what rearends do the trucks come with? Trans?

For the tranny they come with the 4l60e, the same tranny most all rear wheel drive GM vehicles come with. We have 10 bolt 8.2 inch rear end I think. Mot common gear is 3.42 if your lucky you will get a 3.73 though. Most of the guys that swap them out go to a 4.10.

Sierras and Silverados differ only in cosmetics. I'm kinda partial to the Sierra, though.
The rear is the 8.6 GM 10 bolt. Look for the RPO codes in the glove box--G80 is the factory posi (I'm not sure how to tell which gears are there, but Fast4.8 has a link in his sig to his page of RPO codes that you can reference.)
Also--all of this applies only to the 1500, non-HD 1/2-ton trucks.
LG3 - 4.3 V6
LR4 - 4.8 V8
LM7 - 5.3 V8
L59 - 5.3 V8 (flex fuel)
The 4.3 and 4.8 trucks are available with a New Venture NV-3500 5 speed, which is a VERY weak tranny. It would be easier to put a 6speed into later, though.
The auto tranny is the 4L60E.
What about Amy's 12 second N/A truck...isn't it for sale for less than $15K (I think?)
Happy Hunting!
