What PCM to use a T-56 behind a Gen III in a 99-02 Silverado?
#1
I heard somewhere that I could pull a Camaro PCM and have someone like Justin @ BB flash it so I can use a T-56 behind a Gen III in a 99-07 truck... am I correct in thinking so?
Throwing around the idea of maybe doing a 6.0L or angry 5.3L and a T-56 for my next half-ton sometime next year.
Thanks in advance folks.

You can use the stock PCM and just change the parameters in that. If you havnt already done so swap in a 02 PCM if your truck is a 99 or 2000. They are a lot easier for tuners to work with.

I have a T-56 in my truck currently. There is quite a few trucks on the site with 6 speeds. There is a huge thread in the drivetrain section you should check it out.

It will be in a truck that'll pull, be used off-road, driven fast and turn at least 35" tall tires. I hope I am making the right 6-speed choice is why I ask.

Putting a T56 in moves the shifter way back on the floor. Bench seats are needed and there is no room for a console in the middle. I would recommend at least 4.11 gears for the rear. In my 92 with stock gears, 2000 rpm in 6th gear was 90 mph. 1st gear needed to be lower to to get a load started. A T56 makes pickups fun to drive but I wouldn't recomend it if you using it to pull much.

As far as gears, definitely play around with a gear calculator to get the speed and rpm where you want it. I wanted to be around 2k rpm or a little less at 70mph, so with my GTO T56 (6th gear = 0.57) and 30" tires, I went with 4.30's. My first gear is also a little deeper than the f-body t56 (2.97 vs. 2.66) so that figured into my decision as well.
Honestly, I could have gone with 4.10's or 4.30's, but I decided to go ahead and get that extra little bit of twist going.

You don't have to do bench seats. Yes, the shifter does come back a bit. Roughly where the cup holders on the center seat/console are. I took out my center seat/console and instead you can install a full console from a truck/suburban/tahoe etc. Just make sure you get the correct dash style for your truck. Many folks have done it. The shifter ends up coming up just left of the new cup holder. Do it right and it absolutely looks factory. I'm almost finished with my actually.

Bobby, when did u start on this? Gota link? I just noticed your sig says 6 spd too.

Very cool.

If my PM box wasn't full I'da PM'd ya so as to not threadjack. Why did u go w/. a GTO 6 spd.? Was it the gearing, price or more to it? What is / will GTO torque capacity hold up to your future plans?

Ketis, nice pics.
