Default What motor is this 5.3L?

Total newbie question, sorry. Im heavily into the LT1 scene, but times are changing

My aunt has a 5.3L 2003 suburban. She is looking to make a little more power with it, and still be very streetable. Is this motor based on the ls1 series, or is it a vortech, or is vortech just the name of the ls1 truck motors?

I have seen the magnacharger kits, but also thought if the motor was based on the ls engines, a ls6 cam, with nice stall, CAI, exhaust and reprogram would be good too and MUCH cheaper.

Thanks guys

the 5.3 is a based LS1 motor. all the exterior parts will enter change betwwen the fbody LS1 motors and the truck based LS1 motors. the trucks just have a diffrent part number
like mine is a LR4----4.8L
the blocks are the same i believe and the intakes differ for the trucks.
vortech is pretty much a name now i believe

The rear is the 8.6 GM 10 bolt. Look for the RPO codes in the glove box--G80 is the factory posi (I'm not sure how to tell which gears are there, but Fast4.8 has a link in his sig to his page of RPO codes that you can reference.)

Also--all of this applies only to the 1500, non-HD 1/2-ton trucks.

LG3 - 4.3 V6
LR4 - 4.8 V8
LM7 - 5.3 V8
L59 - 5.3 V8 (flex fuel)

this might help also found it in another post from a couple of weeks ago

The brackets on the front are not the same. Heads, cams, and other engine parts like that are the same though. Of couse they do have different specs. An ls6 cam might not be too good for that burb, a bigger stll will definantly help out a lot though, Yank has some nice truck stalls that will retain the factory towing capacity. A good set of LT headers will make a good difference too, just make sure you get them coated. Other than that .. you sound pretty much on track.

Well any low end cams to consider, maybe the factory ls1 cams? I would assume they are bigger than the 5.3.

I know the ticket to max power is with longtube headers, i have them on my Z. But she lives in ankorage, and i know even ceramic coating will hold up to the abuse they will see in the winter. Thinking shorties or mids with an aluminumized Y (or h?? havent looked) would be best since its cheap and can be replaced easily. Any other thoughts? I appriciate everything
