I have heard you can mod the stock airbox. I would like to know what are the mods and how do I do them

 

Hack out the bottom of the box and take the baffle out of the side and call it good! But then again I've seen IAT's higher with the stock box modified so it might be in your best interest to leave it alone.

 

You could try fabbing away to force air into the box itself.

I looked at my box and grille relationship and this maybe possable, but it probily be more work then gains. Or you could try to force air from the foglight area " on a NNBS GMC this looks to be a better option", but the gains if any would come in at around 75-100 mph. Then again if your running a high compression ratio a cold air ram air deal could help keep you out of "knock" range it would be worth it.

The Cowl induction hoods were the best of the ram air set-ups couse they could do 3 things.
1. Get colder air into the motor
2. Reduce drag by sucking it from a high pressure area under the window.
3. Vent hot engine air out of the car reducing drag again, but also helping cool the engines.

The reductions in drag were not very big but would give an advantage on a race car.

 

i just cut the front side of the box behind the headlight out. i have stock box with a homemade tube.

 

Do you cut the bottom of the box and run like a pvc down toward the bumper for ram air?

 

You can do that. I had my baffle removed on my stock box and it was letting extra heat in especially sitting and idling in the summer, I dont like to see those higher IATs so I put it back in. Cooler, better quality air is better for the engine than more air that is hotter.

Cheese grade it. Just drill a bunch of little holes into the side of it behind the headlight.

I just cut the end out of my spare box like it is on the dirtymax's and put my original box up in the attic. Works good enough for my 99, didn't make a bit of difference but it was free.
