The Suburban....not the SS. What I am curious about is what kind of bolt ons are out there for it and which ones are worth the money. I was thinking about intake, exaust etc. If anyone could point me in the right directions I would appreciate it

i would keep it basic ... install the underdrive pulley, air intake system(mac makes a nice chrome one),headers, exhaust, programmer and maybe some gears. this should really wake it up. stay away from the throttle body spacers and get the mass air meter last ..... just 2 cents

This will give you some ideas -

You can do all of the basic mods while keeping the truck driveable and maintaining decent gas mileage. Mods that I would go with for a mild, naturally aspired truck are -

Volant induction (works great and doesn't make much noise

The Other Guys long tube headers - very nice upgrade that also keeps the truck quiet while allowing it to breath better

Corsa exhaust - a high quality system with GREAT looking tips. This is like having two systems in one. It's quiet when you want it to be during normal driving and provides an aggressive sound when you start to get higher into the RPMs.

SuperChips MicroTuner - Seems to work better than the Hypertech. It also provides noticeable gains at part throttle instead of just at WOT.

You might have noticed that alot of the mods that I list won't increase the intake and exhaust sound. I know how it is to tow for 3000 miles and listen to the exhaust everytime the truck downshifts. That makes it real hard to sleep I'll be putting an 8.1 Silverado together in the next few weeks. It will have the mods listed above plus a cam and a few other upgrades to help with horsepower and fuel economy.

Hope this helps,
Tom

Basics:
-Cat back exhaust (Tbyrne covered that)
-UPD (I showed 6rw over the K&N FIPK)
-Pulley (crank only unless you plan on rocking the block)
-Plugs and wires (it will suprise you what they will do. I have Taylors and TR55's)

When you start getting the itch for more:
-Headers (no shorties, get mids or long tubes)
-Whipple
-N20

Things to watch out for:
-Throttle body spacer (unless you want a cool whistle, Yes I have one, but It doesn't hurt and I already have plenty of paperweights)
-Mass air Meter (for every 1 person that like them, I'll show you 5 thatthink they got hosed for $300+)
-to heavy of a wheel and tire combo. It will slow you down.

That's the short list. Good Luck and nice ride.

UPD intake seems to be the new craze. i love mine. and they are a sponsor here (look at the top of the truck forums). you could always go with the K&N and there are many other brands out there. several people have made ram air mods too if you wanna check those out.

there is a wide variety of exaust available from catbacks to true duals to full exaust. my suggestion would be not to open it up TOO much, these trucks need some back pressure. if you wanna replace the headers long tube or mid length seem to be the route to go. shorties don't show much improvement.

computer tuning is a frequent mod. ls1edit is the best but hypertech is cheaper and a little more user friendly i think. ls1edit is definately worth the money though (gotta get rid of that damn torque management!!!)

UD pulleys, head/cam, NOS, and superchargers are of course all stuff you can do to it if your that serious. just about everything that can be done to the fbods can be done to the trucks.

sorry its so long and i hope it helps. congrats on the new toy.

oh yeah...you can't forget the 22" rims and the airbag suspension that lets you lay frame on the pavement.

Whipple might go in once the warranty is up. Or can I put one on and not worry about voiding the warranty. I know sticking one on an fbody and taking it in for service is the kiss of death!

I took a look at the intake and that is definatly on the "to get" list. I am not going to get to crazy with the mods on this one. thats what the SS is for . The rig also has to be able to make the trips from Seattle to Ely nevada towing the SS for the open road races so I want to make sure it stays reliable.

What are some of the better cat back systems out there? Borla, Flowmaster???
