I am currently getting a 422ci rotating assembly put together. Eventually this will be a complete motor.(As funds allow)
I just don't know what I should do with it. Should I put it in my SS or get a pickme-up truck to drop it in.
I've been thinking about getting a newer truck and I think it would be awesome to slap that 422 in it and surprise a few people. I'd like to put it in a 2wd for the weight savings, lower it a bit, put a nice stall behind it and see what it runs. Any opinions about what it would run with around 470-480rwhp? Do you think I would be better off with a 4wd?
Is there such a thing as a 2wd Silverado that has the 4L80E in it or is this just on HD 4*4. I don't know much about what years had what options. I would be looking for a '99 and up used truck to do this too.
If I put this in my SS I will need to upgrade the trans. and rear. Will the 4L80E and whatever rear the trucks have hold up to the abuse?
I'm just looking at my options right now so any help would be great.
Thanks
Johnnie

dont due it no thats a great idea its whati want to do as a projec over the next year or so but ill probably use a stroked 6.0 engne.
for wieght go with a reg cab step side 2wd.
my truck is 4wd and the lunaches are awsome but it suffers in the top end when in 4wd. and the 4l80s are only on the heavier trucks.

Ok thanks. I think it would be easier to put the 4L80E in a truck than in the car since its offered in other truck models already.
I'd be getting an ext. cab. I've had reg. trucks and I will never have another one. That extra space is oh so sweet on the ext. models.
Anybody else have any input, output, throughput, whatever?
2wd, ext. cab, step side, 422ci, 3200 stall, transplanted 4L80E, set of slicks. That might surprise an Fbody or two on the road.
By the way, what size rear do the trucks have?

The truck intakes supposedly flow better than an LS6 intake, nothing wrong with those!
A 422ci truck would kick ***. Talk about being unique! I keep trying to convince Colonel to swap his 9-second MTI 422ci motor into his new Suburban haha.
Not sure on the rear on my truck, but it sure looks big! I also agree with you on the X-cabs, I do not like regular cabs at all.
That 422ci truck *should* run 12s no problem with a decent converter and traction.

Get custom hubs built for it so you can still use 6-lug wheels.
An awesome truck to put a 422 in would be a 2001 GMC C3. It is all-wheel-drive. It would be damn near unbeatable off the line. The only drawback is it has that damn 4L60E. It's a heavier duty version, but there's no way it's gonna last behind a 422 for long.
Another good candidate would be a 2500HD ext-cab shortbed 6.0L 2wd. Sure, it weighs a lot more than a 1500, but it already has the 4L80E and 10.5" full-floater. There are a few lowering kits out there for them. Wheel choices are kind of limited, not alot to choose from is you want anything over 16".
If you want a crewcab, I would go with a 1500HD.

Thanks everybody
I know I said I would never have another reg. cab buttttt, I've been thinking about the weight savings. I could get a 4wd reg. cab, stepside and it should weigh about the same as a 2wd ext. cab truck. 4WD Launches!!
Tony - Thats what I've heard about the truck intakes also. Unique!...OH Yeah! There are just too many 422 Fbodies out there. The surprise factor out on the highway should be GREAT!
Neil 6.0 - I wonder how hard it would be to put the 4L80E and 14 bolt into a regular 1500. I wonder if all the mounts and brackets would hook right up. I could probably get all the parts from my friends brother. He's the manager of a huge auto parts yard. I don't want a crew cab.
How hard would it be to lower a 4wd. truck? The front should just be dropping the torsion bars right? The rear should be like any other truck.
422, torque converted, 4wd Launches

Justin - Yeah I've seen 4wd. trucks lowered in the past. I think a 4wd. looks good lowered just a bit with a nice beefy street tire to fill in the gap.
If the swap to the better HD trans and rear isn't too bad I will definately be on the look out for a nice used 1500 4*4 in the near future. Total weight of this truck with my spindly self driving should be under 5000lbs.
My main concern is actually just the trans. swap because even the weaknut 7.5" 10 bolt in the F-cars can stand up to a little power. I think I would run the rear in the truck until it broke then consider upgrading it.
Is the front diff. in the 4*4's the same 8.6" as the rear?
