You can't last that long and keep your sanity. Mod the truck, then when you get the Vette, you will have two badass rides. One for a rainy day and one for the ladies Not to mention a C6

I voted for the engine swap, but you should get a 6.0L instead of an LS1. More torque, and cheaper.

i agree, i dont think it is humanly possible to go for 3 years without a toy to have fun with. and i mean, if your talking about an engine like that 382 that tony had, then yes, i'd go for something like that, preferebly with a 6.0L block

I have thought a lot about the 6.0L and doing some things to it. but I think i would prefer to get the LS1. I think it will be more beneficial, and since I am talking about buying a modded LS1. the tq. issues can be made up for. i think that the little extra tq. the 6.0L gains over the ls1 stock, is not enough of an advatage to beat out the LS1. the ls1 will drop down my weight in the front and with a heads and cam combe the tq. can be fixed. and the 6.0L will add weight. I think that the weight dist. in the truck plays a big role also. Which points me to an LS1. As for how cheap they are.......You can find very cheap brand new LS1 motors if you look hard. A guy I know around here and on this board bought a brand new LS1 for about $600-800 if I remember correctly

Man im the only one that disagrees. C6! 3 years really is not too long. It is a CORVETTE. Oh I just thought of something funny. Live in your truck for a while J/K. Your decision bro.

Default What to do..............

Some of you know I was planning on getting rid of the truck for a C5. But as of Saturday I moved into an apartment, this will slow things down a lot with saving for the vette. So here's the question. Look around and find a used LS1 motor, like what Tony sold. Drop that into my truck and have some more fun with the truck? Or save for the next 3 or so years and buy a new C6 a year or so after they come out? I have always wanted a new vette, but holding off for 3 yrs without a toy and not doing too many mods on the vehicle I have at the time is similar to torture for me, if not worse.

What do you guys think? I will still be going entirely back to stock with my truck. Then when my warrenty is up in about 6-8 months. I should have some things set aside and I can get a nice little LS1 truck package going. After driving down the beltway during lunch today and encountering an *** in a vette.....I remembered how much fun it was to race vettes and other cars on the beltway and watch them fall from the side mirror to the rear view mirror and then some.

I would also love to have a Vette but there is no way in hell I could go 3 years with a completely stock truck

Yep, three years is way to long..Might as well get castrated j/k So back to the truck.. I am for the 6.0 litre big time.. As I remember, me and Tony weighed the iron block and it was about 45 lbs more..Yes, that is a lot but not to bad if you consider the power, cost savings and reliablility of a 4" bore and LS6 hybrid heads to build on.

All you need is a crank, rods, pistons and can have a huge CID motor that will easily take care of that 40 extra lbs. You could even stud the heads and run over 800 RWHP, without lifing the heads off.. Say, build a 500 RWHP stroker and spray another 250 wet shot on top of that or just go turbo charged. this should take care of your racing fix..Brad, I know you like the big motors and have the hook ups on builing them. So why not?. .. Those poor vettes will be seeing your tail lights ,,, big time..haha

The vette would be good, save some money for it later on. Do what you are wanting and get a ls1 for the truck.
if its one or the other
mod the truck.
I couldnt stand it being stock
Had new exhaust on within 2 weeks.

Three years!!! Ummm.... hell no.

Brooke, the iron block weighs 80 lbs more than an aluminum one. 45 lbs would be sweet! haha.

I bought a complete LS1 (intake to oil pan) 2 years ago for a grand. All it needed was a new rocker arm. I kept it for a while for a potential project, but ended up selling it for $2500 cash.

I say to buy an LS1, do a mild port job on the heads, stick a decent cam in it, add some forged pistons, and spray the hell out of it!
