Default What cam and springs for me

I'm going to install a cam the summer and need to know what cam and springs would be best for me. Since mine is a '99 I know its go the worst cam, and I need more power and reliability. Need a cam that will work great with a HPP3 and has a nice idle(not too rough but just to let everone know its not stock ). Also what springs do I need? How much hp will I get out of it? Who has the cam and springs? I don't want one that will hurt gas mileage an has great dependability because its my daily driver and have no other means of transportation if I break anything.

Hey, its hard to get an answer about this because its so broad and so beat up. Anyway I just called Comp and they said the best for me, wanting to retain good bottom end is the 54-412-11. It has 212/218 dur, .522/529 lift on a 114lsa. The pushrods reccomended would be 7955-16 and the springs reccomended are 26918-16. I totalled it all up at comp, from comp I should say and it was like 860 for it all. The cam was 460. So I am trying to find one used and well the springs I will most likely buy new and the pushrods also. I am doing the same swap probably about the same time so we can help each other too.

You might want to try a 98-00 F-body cam. A gentleman recently posted about a .5 second drop in the quarter with this cam in a 99' w/5.3. I think it was Nelson. That would equate to at least 35 ponies (most if not all above 4000rpm I would think). I'm gonna shove one in my 6.0 in about a month (picked it up for $25) and it does NOT require a spring change. Don't have the exact numbers in front of me but roughly .500/.500 lift and much more duration as well...lsa 119

You can routinely find these cams for sale cheap and if you don't like it yank it out and get all your money back when you sell it. Not having to do a spring swap is gonna save you alot of time too. Just food for thought before you drop a wad on a $500 cam/spring set.

I'll let ya'll know after I swap mine out....waiting for the snow and cold to go away as my truck won't fit in the garage.

I too am looking for a decent cam for a 6.0L. I really dont know what i should get. I want something mild, but nothing that hurts dependability and reliability a great deal. Basically, I want a decent step up from stock, but nothing so "lopie" that i cant drive it to say Florida for spring break. I love lope, but i cant handle anything too extreme for a daily driver. Not having to replace the springs would be nice, but i willif i have to. Anyone know where i can get a good cam setup for cheap? Any recommendations?

I bought a 00 Fbod cam as in my sig, but have decided if I am gonna do it, I am going all the way. So the 00 fbod cam I have is for sale as of now but haven't posted in the classifieds. 1stoopid, you should look at the cam that you want in the classifieds, of course I am above you Anyway, either that one or the one I originally posted in this thread. If you don't want to change springs, then go with the cam that I have sitting at my house. It is a 00 Fbod cam, with I think 2500 miles on it. Great shape, just decided different.

I went ahead and got the 54-412-11 Comp. Lots of people have said good things about it. So thats why I went with it. I didnt get Comp 918's, I just got the 02 LS6 springs instead. They can take up to .550 lift.

The cam I got is out of a 99' TA. The specs are .500/.500 lift with 198int/209exh duration LSA 119.5 . I have the same weak cam in my 99' 6.0 as you have in your 5.3 (.466/.457 191/190 LSA 114). As you can see, quite a difference. If I had the bigger, later model 6.0 cam I probably would not be doing the Fbody cam and rather go the Compcam/spring route.
It should be a very computer friendly mod as well...plug and play so to speak. The years of the Fbody with the "big" cam are 98-00.
