Default What am i looking at LQ4 or LQ9

I have a chance to buy a used 6.0L with almost everything I need to put in my truck. But not sure if it's a LQ4 or LQ9 what i do know is it has the 317 heads so that tells me it has a lower comp. It has the 6.0L on the back of the block. It also has a fan bolted to the front. Is there something to look for besides pulling the heads off to look at the pistons. Would it say LQ4 or LQ9 on the block? Thanks

Thanks alot guys....
Now next question, is it worth getting or should i keep looking around for a LQ9. the truck is a 2013 single cab GMC with the 4.3L V6. The plan is to put the 6.0L in as is bone stock then later once i get used to it start with mods. I know no matter which engine i go with it will be way better and faster then the 4.3L V6 but could i do better then a LQ4? again thanks

While just about anything can be worked around, I would suggest starting with a Gen IV engine from a 2007 or newer, as it is more compatible with your 2013 model truck.

Ok went look at the 6.0 again and it came out of a 2003 2500 4x4 so yes it is a LQ4. It has a lil under 90,000 miles but ran good before they took it out. The price is more then i want to spend on something i don't really want ( the 317 heads ) but he has another LQ4 in a 2003 Yukon Denali awd that has a blown trans. The price is half and Yukon is still all together. So I can take off what ill need to do the swap like engine, computer, harness, motor mounts, front acc ect ect. Plus the Yukon has disc brakes in the back so ill be taking those as well has the gears once I see which ones in it. He also has a few 4.8L and 5.3L with 862 and 706 heads. The idea is to take the 706 heads go through them and add bigger valves and put then on the 6.0L. This should help with the CR being the 706 has a 61.15cc over the 317 which has 71.06cc. With bigger valves this should be a nice set of heads for N/A. Now i need to see if he has a 4L80 lying around.....

So am i on the right track with this swap???

Sounds like it. But to Bear's point... I assumed this was going in the 85, and if thats the case the LQ4 will work great. If this is going in your newer truck then you should find a newer engine.
