This should answer some of your questions.
[quote]2. Will the 4.8L motor pull my car and a trailer okay? It can't be that bad, we pulled my car from Houston to Kentucky behind my Dad's weak '94 Ford with the 4.9L V8 and it did okay. That motor probably makes about 150 rwhp tops. Keep in mind that this truck might only pull my car once or twice a month.

I don't think you would have too much trouble. Try to get 3.73 gears, tranny cooler & tow in 3rd gear.
[quote]3. Is the cab size between the HD and standard size pickups the same? Is just the hood and grille different? Same dash too? Especially the extra-cab trucks, are they the same size inside?

All the interiors are the same.
[quote]4. What options should I avoid if possible, and which options would you recommend?

Just my personal opionion, but I would avoid:
Things I would get:
I like BigTex's idea too. C3's are kickass!
Larry, I have seen an ad for '02 Chevy 1500HD LS pkg. 2wd's listed for $23,999. Check your email in a few.

Being that I'm on my 4th truck, I'll tell ya what I like and what I don't. I definitely like the GMC better for looks. I'm with you on the front end and side molding. I don't like the huge black molding on the Silverados. Then again, Jason's truck looks BADASS w/ the billet grille and cowl hood. My current GMC is the 1st one I've had with the handling/trailering suspension, and I can tell a night and day difference. It rides better, as well as higher, than a truck w/ the standard suspension, and the truck doesn't squat near as bad when you have a trailer hooked up. This is also my 1st truck w/ the split bench seating, and I agree that the buckets are a waste of money. I do miss a locking console, but that's no big deal. This truck is also my 1st with the 3.73's and posi, and I won't have another truck without posi or with 3.42's! The posi makes a night and day difference in the rain. My other trucks w/ the open rearend got downright scary at times in the rain. It took next to NO throttle to get the truck spinning on wet pavement. The 3.73's are definitely nicer over the 3.42's, but I also wouldn't mind a set of 4.10's. With the really tall tires, you don't see much of an RPM difference at highway speeds. You can tell some difference with a car and trailer behind you when leaving from a stop. The truck doesn't struggle like my past trucks have done. I also have the optional 255/70R16" tires, and I like having a wider tire. It's more contact patch, and it looks better. However, it's $295. All of this stuff is purely subjective, though. I also have the leather, and I LOVE the truck leather! It's some quality stuff, and it makes the f-body leather look really cheap IMO. I'm sure it's not cheap; it was grouped in the SLT pkg., and MSRP on that is $1,890.
I have the 5.3L, and it pulls awesome. I'm using a steel 18' dovetail to tow with, and just the trailer weighs in at 2,050#. With the SS on it, it tips the scales right at 5,500# or so; it's happy as hell to pull. I averaged 14.5 MPG coming back from RCR doing 75 MPH. There were very few times that I had to kick down out of OD. If I could order a truck, I'd still get 4.10's. With peak TQ at 4,000 RPM, it certainly couldn't hurt. My dad's '98 5.7L Silverado makes its torque lower down, and you can tell the difference in pulling. If you do end up w/ the 3.42's, just have them swapped out at MTI. You can save the money by getting the 4.8L, but I'd have a 5.7L swapped in pretty quick. I've driven an ext. cab 4.8L, and I didn't like it at all. The torque difference was considerable according to the butt-o-meter.
I paid $300 over invoice for my truck. I gave them my price and walked out the door. I stopped by later that day to see what they were gonna do. It was one of two '01's left on the lot, and they went for it. .9% APR over 48 mos. was a BIG motivator! With that APR, I didn't put a dime down. I financed the whole amount; it was financially smarter with that APR. I'll pay a little over $500 in interest over the life of the loan. I had them tint the windows as well. Someone special-ordered the truck with NO tint, and it looked like anus. You can see a pic of it w/ no tint on my webpage under "pics of other LS1's". I went the darkest I could on the front side windows and 1 shade darker on the back side windows and rear window.

Not all Silverados come with "Huge Black Molding" Mine is body color.
I'm not sure why but some do, some don't. Must be an apperance package option. Mine no longer has a hole where the motor was, It has a shiney NEW 4.8 sitting there with 0 miles on it.
TrevorD, I didn't think you could get a 410 in the 2wd 1500 as an option? MTI did my 373. I have heard some good and some not so good things about putting a 410 in. Do you know anyone who has done that and been happy with it? I'd like to know about their setup and pick their brain about it.

Trevor, that is a sweet looking truck. I also like those polished wheels the GMC trucks have as an option, but they probably wouldn't last long on my truck. I usually put rims on every damn car I own!
How much did that truck cost you?
Greg, did you get the 4.8L covered under warranty 100%?

Greg,
You are right. Well that sucks! I know that Joseph swapped in the 4.10's for Jason, and he loves 'em.
Tony - The MSRP on it was $29,759, and I got it for $26,400 with the window tint. Invoice was $26,079 FWIW. I was happy to get the rims as well. They really help in the appearance.

Uuhhhh not entirely. I pretty much exhausted all my options on another route. The best I could do with no out of pocket was a motor w/22,000 miles used (non GM aftermarket warranty guys FYI). I paid the difference out of pocket. Under the circumstances thats the best I could do. Only cost me about $600 out of pocket. Pretty good since I had a 47500 mile motor and for $600 a new on w/ o miles. This is ALL NEW, block, heads, intake manifold, everything. I'll post the final outcome tonight when I get home with it. It's already ready. I'm still going to try to get the old motor if the core is not to much.
