yep no need to pull the accessory drive. just remove the 3 bolts that hold the bracket to the face of the head. on earlier motors, there is also a bracket going from the water pump to the head.

time varies on the removal and re-install. i had the passenger exhaust unbolted, plugs out and the head off before luke could even get the intake manifold off LOL.

Change of plans... ended up purchasing an 04 LS1 with 70k miles. Gonna to pick it up Febuary 5th.

Richard is gonna clean up and assemble the stock 243's with my patriot dual springs. Using a .040 head gasket to achieve 11.0.1 compression. Getting patrick G to spec me a good size cam. While the engine is out the stall is getting stalled down and tightened up to a 3800 stall. Gonna use the stock truck intake for now.

you'll pick up MORE power if they are worked P&P heads on the ls1 motor, got a good healthy cam for ya 235/239 .624/624 113.+1 <----- way to small for my 410

That should be a REALLY nice combo! I know my H/C/I 4.8 does not hold a candle to my cam only LQ9.... Your gonna love the TQ of the 11:1 LS1...

I would LOVE to do that but i found a deal on this LS1 i couldn't pass up. Will just have enough to get the heads looking good and get a nice cam to match the setup. Gonna get a new oil pump and timing chain while its all off.

I would like to put rod bolts in it but it already has 70k miles and i don't want to disturb the way it has already worn in. The highest rpm it will see is 6800.

Yeah im hoping its a night and day difference to my 5.3l. Im sure it will be.

I could only imagine the difference in the amount of torque you gained going from a 4.8l to a small cammed LQ9 Corey

I love my bottlenecked LQ4 with stock exhaust and stock intake, the little gt2-3 trucks right on along and is really nice to drive. Just make sure you use new lifters, I used a set I had sitting on the shelf when I put the motor together thinking they were good but Ive got a nice lifter tick most of the time so Ill be pulling my heads at some point in time
