Default waste of a motor?

Heres the deal, I'm addicted to cubes

I'd love to run a forged 8.1 w/ whipple 3300ax and make a stump puller but, I can't seem to find enough companies that make parts for a resonable price. I think I may look at the marine 8.1's and see what I can steal for parts because they are quite popular in marine performance applications.

The biggest reliable LS1 based engine I've seen is a iron 408. The fact that it's LS1 based means theres piles upon piles of parts for it.

My question is would a supercharged 408 tuned to be a torque monster be a waste/misuse of the engine?

I'd be using a built 4l80E w/ mid 2k stall with either engine because the allison hogs up way to much power.

This is going to go in a 2500hd ECSB 4X4. My goal with the 8.1 was about 500-600 rwhp, so i'd like the 408 to be about the same. This is goin to be a daily driven street fighter so I don't mind spending a little extra to make it reliable.

a 408 would be your best bet. I would probably run a turbo on the 408 instead of a supercharger do to the fact the m90 and probably the radix would't be efficient with that motor. I think their are a couple of people running them but you shuold get alot of feedback. goodluck.

I think the 408 would be sweet. You can also get crazy and make it a 427 (4.125x4.125), but that will be pretty damn costly.

I'm a RADIX fan .... so I would go with the RADIX, just because it's got the instant boost right off idle.

I've heard that the radix doesn't do so well with big inch motors and the intercooled whipple 2300's and 3300's do very well with them. I'd thought about a turbo, but I don't think I'd like the lag and I don't want to run more than say 8-9 psi of boost. Why I ask about the misuse of the 408 is that I won't be reving it that high (6k tops), and I've heard that LS1's are made to rev for horsepower, not be a grunter. Is there a bigger LS1 based motor thats reliable (can be a daily driver and won't crap out after 70k miles) than the iron 408?

The RADIX and the 2300 may as well be equivelant I think.

I would stick with a 408 in a 1500 they weigh alot less. I have a 2500hd ECSB 8.1L it weighed in at 6880lbs made 504whp it would get wasted by some of the ligter trucks on hear and they made less power then I did.

I don't think you will be disappointed with the amount of low-end torque made by a 408. Also, if you size the turbo right, you will have very little lag. Just my .02
