Default vsc burned up, hard wire fans then truck dont start

i noticed my temps rising on the way home from work this morning. but they only got to about 210. i decided to check the fans today when i got up and noticed that the vsc had burned up. ok, i expected it since so many others have had problems with theirs.

now, i go to hard wire the fans so they will at least be on while i drive until i can get the pcm harness from nelson. here is where the problem starts. both grounds are hooked together into one single wire. i grounded it. both hot wires are hooked together and i tapped power from the fuse block under the hood to something that only comes on when the key is turned on. i went to start the truck and all i heard was a click and nothing. i got no power to anything.

i hooked up my test light and went through the fuses and they still have power going to them but i still don't get power to the inst panel, stereo, truck won't start.

how do i test a relay myself? my ohm meter petered out on me so i am limited to a test light. could a relay be the cause of this? one time i got power back and i unhooked the fans but i got the same results. click, then nada.

First thing I'd check would be battery voltage (I know it's kinda tough to do with just a test light). Maybe the battery died while performing the repair? There may be enough juice to light up the test light but not enough to start the truck. You could try jump-starting it. There's also some fuses in the left side of the dash, not sure if any of them protect any circuits that would not allow the truck to start though. As far as testing a relay, if a relay is suspect easiest thing is to try and swap it with another...there should be more than one of the same style relay in the fuse block to swap around.
